  1. Re: started my cnc conversion for Precision Matthews PM-25MV Mill

570oz.in on the X & Y axes are suitable. The Z is a bit more problematic. I use a 570 on the Z with a 2.5:1 belt reduction. Also I’m driving these from a G540 that is only supplying 3.5A per phase,...
  2. Re: Gecko G540 is this sound causing my cut quality problems??

    Hi,

That ticking won’t be the G540.
If you are using Mach3 ands printer port, the usual cause will be interference from another program running in the background. In the days gone by QuickTime...
  3. Re: geko540 and the g0704 mill cnc conversion kit questions

    Hi

The motors will work with the G540, but as others have stated the torque produced will be reduced.

I run 570oz.in 5A motors with a G540 on my BF20 style mill. The performance is more than...

Re: What happened to Benchtop Precision

The kit was originally for the TM20VL. The TM25VL and PM-25 was the next iteration of the mill. They both come from the same factory. My early one has gears in the head. The TM-25VL came with a belt...

    Re: Power Supply Size?

    You could use a single 48v 12A supply such as;

    Re: Power Supply Size?

To calculate current requirements for a stepper motor multiply the motors rated current by 2/3.

So, you’re motor is rated at 4.2A. Multiplying it by 2/3 gives 2.8A per motor.

    If you plan to...

Re: Homann Designs TM20LV (BF20,G0704) conversion

One other thing I did to disable the spindle when the probe is plugged in was to process input 3 that is indicating the phono jack is plugged in to input 4.

I modified the M3 and M4 macros in...

The image below show the panel in place. You can see that input 3 is active due to the touch probe being plugged in. Note that the probe in connected to input 4 and and is not active.

Re: Homann Designs TM20LV (BF20,G0704) conversion

    Hi All,

Well it's been a while, I've done a few improvements on the mill. I've been using it a lot. It is probably ready for a double nut ballscrew upgrade.

I did the revision of the I/O status...

    Re: Hoss's G0704

I've seen this happen with wood routers where dust and swarf builds up on the axes and binds it up over time.
In these cases I disconnect the steppers and see if the axes are binding by moving them...

Re: Sieg X3 - Erratic Spindle Speed

    Hi,
If it is DC motor with brushes, check the condition of the brushes by removing them and have a look. They may be worn or dirty.

    Cheers

  13. Re: CNC kit purchased - I have electrical questions.

    Hi
The motors should work fine. As stated the inductance is a bit high. This will reduce the top speed of the stepper motor. If you’re machine uses 5mm pitch ballscrews then stepper speed is...

Yes, i agree. It definitely sounds like it’s missing steps. It could be due to extra weight, etc.
check that the motor settings acceleration is not too high.
    As suggested, try slowing everything...

    Hi Steve,

Usually 5V0 means 5.0Volts. But, on the Axbb-e it is the 0V for the 5V output. So yes you are correct. The STEP- and DIR- should be connected to the 5V0 terminal.

    Cheers

Also VCC is the power supply positive (+ve)

    Hi Steve,
Yes that sounds correct. GND is used quite often to identify the negative side of the power supply (-ve) rather than Earth.

    Hi,

18,000rpm is very fast. I cut perspex at around 1,500 - 3,000 rpm with a 1/8" single flute cutter. I have a fog buster and use it to blow air with no coolant. The air helps to clear the chips...

Re: g540 pwm output not getting 100%

Have you configured the VFD to accept the speed control from the analog input and not the VFD panel potentiometer?

Same goes with the FWD terminal.

    Cheers

Re: g540 pwm output not getting 100%

    Hi,
That’s normal operation. All semiconductor circuits have a voltage loss across their silicon switching junctions.
This can be anywhere between 0.2V to 0.7V depending on the materials used in...

    Re: PM25 stalling X and Y

    Hi,
570oz.in motors are more than adequate for your machine’s X & Y axes.
They should be provided with around 5A/phase
I couldn’t see how much current you are feeding them. Are you providing them...
