    Re: Fourth Axis

Stepper motor so that locks, but as it's a worm gear drive some backlash is possible.

    Re: Fourth Axis

I have one but haven't used it a lot. It's very heavy. If it were looking for one these days I'd consider the Tormach, which has tilt capability.

    Re: PathPilot 2.8.3 on Torus

I have had zero issues from my initial install of the 1.9 version, hence no incentive to spend time and effort on any upgrade. Probably will sell my NM200 in a couple of months. Buyer needs time to...

Interesting that you chamfered the soft jaws. Never needed to do so myself.

Re: Torus Pro with servos and 4th axis

I watched the first thread milling video. From my experience I needed to adjust the nominal diameter of the thread mill in my software to get proper fits. Each thread mill is a bit different.

    Re: Novakon NM200

I am a vet too and have a NM200 and Solidworks. I haven't used the SW CAM features as I've been using CamBam for a decade or so. To use SW for CAM you'd need to be able to model the part in 3D...
  8. Re: So I bought a Novakon NM-135. What do I have ???

PP conversion costs were fairly basic PC that I put together from components at Frys, about $250. CD with Path Pilot $90. 5i25 Interface card from Mesa about $90.

I had to spend some time...
  9. Re: So I bought a Novakon NM-135. What do I have ???

I have a NM-200 with the CD100 control. The loopback DB25 cable on mine is short (1') and connects the BoB to the parallel port. My mill is 10 years old, and I have Novakon do a refurb of the CD100...

Re: stepper motors for sale ?

I've had good luck with Automation Direct's VFD on my Bridgeport for the past 10 years. And I live about 10 minutes from their warehouse. :)

Re: Feeds and speeds for steel

G-Wizard for me. Most of my machining lately has been cast iron. I use only carbide end mills and cobalt drills.

Re: stepper motors for sale ?

With Mach3 I was limited to 75 rapids because of CPU pulse generation. With PP I have set it to 150. That said, I make mostly quite small parts so the max is almost never attained.

    Re: Novakon upgrades.

Here's a Solidworks image of the bracket. The spindle is a German Makra. It's 220V so I have a transformer to run it. It has some metric collets that don't work for me, but does have a 1/8" collet...

    Re: Novakon upgrades.

I went to PP from Mach3, and added a bracket around the spindle to hold a high speed spindle for small tools and engraving bit.

Re: Just ordered the last melon (Torus)

On my NM200 I tried running coolant with a shower curtain enclosure, but wasn't happy with the Novakon-supplied pump and tank. Since I make small one-off hobby parts I just use ar blast and vacuum...

Problem solved for the instant. The original oiler failed when the plastic collar that attached the lever to the base cracked. The metal one from the leaking oiler was a screw in replacement, so...

    Oiler issues

The oil pump that came with the mill broke on the bottom lever casting a couple of years ago, and I had John send me a replacement. Different "brand" but same Chinesium construction. The...

Re: Just ordered the last melon (Torus)

My NM200 has an external box with all the electronics. The PC connected to the BoB with a short 23? pin cable. For PP I had configured a low cost PC that could accept a Mesa card. This low profile...

Re: Just ordered the last melon (Torus)

I use PP, which has G41 that I have used only to dial in a thread mill. I didn't do CAD or CAM at the mill when I had mach3 as I didn't want to do any Win7 updating.

PP work itself has little to...

Re: Power Draw Bar ver 2.0 (Pulsar)

I know that I for sure have forgotten most of what I learned in getting 1.9 installed. I don't even remember how to get the Linux prompt after power up.

But for me, 1.9 works fine.

Re: Just ordered the last melon (Torus)

For 2.5D machining the backlash will be taken up a vast percentage of the time, so as long as you set Z0 with downward motions you can likely ignore it.

It doesn't get in the way in terms of access, but I have bumped my head on the bracket when looking closely at an edge finder.

    Re: NM200 spindle ring

I should have made the bracket so that the secondary spindle is to the side, but otherwise it works fine.

    NM200 axes not moving

I went out to start up the mill today, and found that the PP control won't move the axes. Once the mill and PP are started, I can start the spindle, and jogging commands do cause the DROs to...
