  1. Re: Mach 4 running tool off the table at the start?

If you want to work in metric double check the configuration is set to metric.
If that checks out revisit the motor tuning and make sure the pulses/unit (or whatever Mach4 calls it) is set...
  2. Re: My DIY CNC Slant Bed Lathe with Gang Tooling

    Wow. Well planned, nicely executed.
What's the big whammy bar on the far left ?
  3. Re: Is the Taig Mini Mill a smart purchase for a beginner.

It's a bit like asking if a Chevy Sonic is good tansportation, good for commuting, not much good for hauling lumber :)
The design hasn't changed much over the years suggesting it works well within...

    Re: Knocking sound when plunging

30mm/min is way slow for polycarbonate, you want to be making chips not heat. If the tool path suits ramping do that instead of plunging. Ramping can be helical or sloping deeper as the tool...
  5. Re: Looking at a MAXNC 10 CL???? Please help

The possible problem is if MaxNC software and hardware went through several revisions. Finding what matches this model could be a real scavenger hunt.
To get this running with lower cost modern...
  6. Re: Got a CNC 3 years ago and gave up on it.

I'm running grbl 1.1 and UGCS Classic (not platform).
When machine connects the console shows this:

G54 offset is active, G90 absolute positioning is active, G21 meric is active, and feed is 0....

Re: Kinetic Sand Table (part 2)

    deadlykitten;
May be someone is already working on a random generator ? For now I'll use what's available with no effort,

    Re: Vertical router build

Examples of of horizontal mill conversions are rare, examples of 1914 horizontal mill conversions rarer still :)
I'm assuming 1914 is year of manufacture, not a model number.
    Looking forward to...
  9. Re: Need some help, Machine not carving straight lines

If you look at the drawing I posted earlier there is a spacer labelled #4. There is also a spacer pushing on the inner bearing races from the other side, and I believe that's the most common...
  10. Re: Need some help, Machine not carving straight lines

Special washer ? If these are the type of blocks I'm thinking of there should be a part #4 as shown in the included jpeg.
The chinesium version of these blocks can have a small amount of backlash. ...

    Kinetic Sand Table (part 2)

I built one of these kinetic things in 2009. Back then there wasn't much in the way of a roadmap other than Bruce Shapiro's public (museum ?) installations. The parts used were expensive overkill...
  12. Re: Precision Matthews PM-728VT Mill for CNC ?

Renting an engine hoist takes a lot of stress out moving these things, especially the largest bench tops. How well that works may depend on the height of the ceiling.
My 'bench top' is ~1200 lbs...

Re: DOC in hard maple - what is reasonable?

Kind of off topic, thinking about belt tension leads to wondering how much radial force a stepper shaft can reasonably handle before an outrigger bearing is necessary. Maybe a zenbot has a support...
  14. Re: Former Mach 3, now LinuxCNC user hitting a few snags

The numbers in the link rodw provided are stored in a text file labelled .var in the machine config directory. That file is a handy reference but it's not good practice to edit it directly (and I...
  15. Re: Former Mach 3, now LinuxCNC user hitting a few snags

    I almost always program offsets G54 -G59.
If Home as correctly defined in machine set-up and machine travel limits are correctly defined it 'just works'. Or at least it 'just works' if machine is...
  16. Re: Stepper Grinding Noise and Getting Stuck

A stepper with poor electrical connection can make a bad noise that I would describe as growling. Not enough power to motors --> poor movement or no movement.
My suspicion is not enough power, ...

Re: DOC in hard maple - what is reasonable?

It reads like your machine has 2 screws on the long axis. Have you considered adding another motor and eliminating the belts ?

    To scratch build a decent 20" x 48" router for $2k could be a...
  18. Re: Separate sub-forum for CNC's built with 3D-printed parts?

In America everything is available all the time and usually at reasonable shipping costs, or at least that's the feeling I get from the outside looking in. For example extrusions are not a cheap...

    Re: Two Axis CNC Table

A CoreXY type design might work although I've never spotted one scaled up to 2 meters.
Link to an example used for moving a magnet below.

  21. Re: Need help finding out what linear rails I have

If the concept of adapting an industrial component to something toy-like is offensive stop reading now.

A set of mystery rails could be used with v shaped wheels as the example in the link below...
  22. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

$150 for mini PC with "activated" Windows 10 pro. If that's legit Microsoft must be practically gifting them activation keys.

The Chinese manufacturers of those offline controls could dominate...

Re: Mach 3, g28 safe travels height

I don't use Mach3 so would be better of staying out of this, sorry. If G28 doesn't raise the spindle something is off in the machine absolute reference positions.
    My preference would be stripping...
