Hi,
A lot of it depends on how involved you want to be with the control software or do you want more of a turnkey system, I assume you have the physical machine, steppers and stepper drivers, ...
I would suggest getting a basic understanding of g-code by hand first of all, get hold of one of the many cnc simulators and that way you can 'see' what happens.
I still find it easier sometime...
Hi I bought a chinese spindle/vfd pair, rated at 2.2kw and the vfd quit after a stall ( went into fault mode, but when restarted it blew - I wasn't sure how long it would last , guess I know now )
...
HI Jerseydog, here's a link to the filter I have used, keep in mind you will need one rated to your current requirements, here in the Uk we have 220v ac so our current tends to be half of what you...
Hi Jerseydog,
Yes, the line from the wall to the vfd. On my setup, I run all the cnc kit for a router setup ( monitor power, pc power, coolant pump, stepper driver cabinet and vfd all from the...
I would also think about fitting an emc/rfi filter into the mains feed to the drive, I have just installed a chinese 2.2kw inverter drive and it put that much interference back down the mains feed it...
It depends on the target application, on what type of machine operator you expect & how you expect the system to run ( automated production or dev / prototype runs ) normally I would associate a...
Hi ELaser / Blackeringe,
Thanks for the replies, I'm guessing that 2kW fibre is going to be out of my pocket range, I was looking at some 200W OEM fibre units, but I'm guessing that these are not...
Hi I'm interested in finding out what minimum power is required to cut say 1mm brass sheet at between 5 - 10 mm/s
Hi Moosecnc,
I have had good results by using schmitt trigger inverters ( 74LS14 ) just a simple breadboard to handle both input and output, this gets over the lack of drive from some of the...
Hi Nateman,
You can check if it is a resonance problem by simply adding a flywheel/mass to the stepper motor, if it is a resonance issue, then the ipm at which it occurs will change if you add...
There are some ER straight shank tool holders available, I guess this sort of thing would be availablefrom most tool suppliers, since they are designed to be held in high precision collets, the od is...
Not yet, still working on it, will post up some more pictures of where I am now, just in the process of incorporating a VF drive for the induction motor, under test this gives speeds upto 11200...
Try looking for a dental supplier in your area, gold crowns are cast using investment plaster, with a lost wax process.
Hi, it sounds like the motors are stalling. Can you disconnect the motors from the axis and try the same program and see if they still stall.
Many things may be the cause of a stepper drive...
Hi Eddie,
It depends on many factors, like what resolution/ tolerance you desire, what you are going to cut wood / metal. How big a machine you are planning and what you intend for the drive...
I would recommend taking a look at meshcam, I've being using it for about 3 years now without issue (very good support too) , I use Alibre personal edition to do the design work (but you could use...
Hi Burnout,
Are you planning on building from a kit, or really building yourself, if the latter you will need access to some engineering equipment to start with. A few years ago I started down...
Hi,
Is this happening for all gcode or just converted data?
Sounds like one axis may be going the wrong direction, not sure what zero and axis directions are in Corel, but I'm guessing that one...
I run a 1m x 600cm diy router under EMC2 on a PC via PCI parallel cards ( I bought a ten of these so I have plenty of spares, cost about £7 each two years ago ), I changed the PC to use compact flash...
Hi ynneb,
Here's what I have been getting up to.
Original design was created in the free version of Daz3D, exported as an STL file and then gcode produced by MeshCAM. I am quite pleased with...
I have been thinking long and hard about safety since starting this thread, work on the spindle has now progressed to a point where I can start making adaptions to the existing system. I intend to...
Anyone know what the service life is likely to be on one of these motors run under load for long periods?
Anyone have prior knowledge of integrating ATC's with EMC2, I'm getting to the point with my ATC design/build where I need to start looking at the interface into EMC2, do I use a series of fixed...
Finished the bracket that joins the spindle & motor together, here's a pic of the completed spindle mounted on the machine, now I need a drawbar, a manual one for now just to see how this thing...
Hi, I seem to remember reading about this effect some time ago, it would probably have been in the EMC2 documentation on tuning stepper motors, maybe to do with acceleration and deceleration and the...
Hi Rk,
I use £10 PCI parallel port cards, that way if I kill one I can replace it easily, the last set I bought were 'Sweex PU005V2' they use a Moschip MCS9865 chipset and work fine with EMC2...
Hi Biggs,
Not sure about pouring the alluminium all the way down that pipe, don't forget for good castings you do not want turbulent flow in the metal as the mold fills, especially with...
Hi WJF,
Nice to be in contact with someone who has really worked in the industry, you are a real rarity these days. I got into casting about 10 years ago, could not find any small shops that...
Hi WJF,
What you are talking about is green sand casting, the method being discussed is lost foam casting, a sacrificial foam pattern including a foam riser & sprue are placed in a loose sand (...
