    Re: 45 degree problem

Axis thrust bearings are a common wear item on Fadals. The first evidence is usually quadrant lines during circular interpolation. It can also express as less than great finishes during angular...

The Glentec spindle drive from ITSCNC.com is an excellent unit and works on all Fadals.

    Re: Fadal bad 3d finish

I have found that the thrust bearings in all axes are a wear item on my 4020. It especially affects finish on 3d work.

  4. Re: What is your best mod you have done to your Fadal

Spidercool. Better than any coolant nozzle arrangement I've tried in 30 years.
Second best was 16 megs of memory.
Coolant filters help a lot too.
  5. Re: Fadal 5 axis, trouble with B axis/possible dnc

    Unfortunately, no.
That type of setting is in hardware (eprom) and not accessible to the user.
  6. Re: Fadal 5 axis, trouble with B axis/possible dnc

The Fadal 5th axis requires signed motion commands in absolute or incremental. Any move from the current position clockwise (from the operators view) is in a minus direction and must be preceded by...
  7. Re: State of Mastercam in 2021. Toughts? Annoyances? Praises?

I've been using Mastercam since 1989. I liked it then and like it now. When they have instituted major interface changes, it has taken a little while to find all the commands, and to customize things...
  8. Re: Rebuild old CNC or New / Matsuura MC500 vs G0704 conversion

I agree with Kistler. I worked for Methods (the Matsura importers for decades, but not for a few years now) when the 500 was a current machine. It is a very capable small machine and no comparison...
  9. Re: 1994 Fadal VMC15XT or Haas 1997 VF-2 Help me decide.

I have had 6 Fadals over the years and have been pretty happy with them. They are easy to work on and parts are available from a number of sources.
That said, the VMC15 was my least favorite of...

Wider faces of inner races towards each other, shim in between. All axes should be the same.

    Re: Self Centering Vise Questions

I found that a scroll type manual lathe chuck - 3 or 4 jaws - works very well to centralize castings. I would typically use the 4 jaw with aluminum soft jaws contoured to fit the casting.

Re: Can you raise the Z axis ???

Did it decades ago with a Matsuura. We made a weldment with the shape of the column base. Then had it stress relieved and ground flat. Still needed a bit of scraping to get the z axis perfectly...

    B&S Gage 2000 help needed

  16. Re: Fadal 88HS crashing on upper Z with tall fixture offset before tool change

The M5 on a separate line

    Looking for a rotary table

I'm looking for a CNC rotary table with about a 5"-8" platter size.
    Full rotary, not an indexer.
Motor type is unimportant as I will have to mount a new one anyway.
Would prefer one of the major...
