  1. Re: Problem with none of the axis moving and router spinning straight away

Thinking about it some more, the use of steppers and mach 3 is not "closed loop". In other words, the computer is issuing commands, but it has not way to know if the commands are resulting in...
  2. Re: Problem with none of the axis moving and router spinning straight away

Hi, I am far from an expert, but will throw in some ideas anyway.

Step one is really to verify that you have power to all of the right places. So step one is to go through to every location where...

Re: The beginnings of a new cnc mill

I am not sure if it is practical or not, but sometimes I wonder if a machine like that should be built to operate close to the floor vs at table height.
  4. Re: Router rebuild - turning a non functional machine into something useful

Now the table has been moved up higher on the legs to very close to the normal operating height.

Some of the leg frame work / cross members are in place, but I need to find / buy some more...
  5. Re: Router rebuild - turning a non functional machine into something useful

Now the frame is flipped over and more gussets are added.

I had to work with what was there and tack on some more supports for legs.

The legs are some second hand 1530 that I purchased from a...
  6. Re: Router rebuild - turning a non functional machine into something useful

I added some gussets to the 1530 framework to improve squareness and rigidity.

These double gussets are from parco.

In this photo, the machine is in the original side "up" so the short legs are...

    Re: MD001 cnc conversion

Your build is looking really good.

Similar to you, we have had something go through the house, but it tests negative to everything so I guess it is just in our imagination.

    Re: Unstable system.

Just throwing out the general idea that RF noise is not completely easy to eliminate. Make sure that all of your system is tied together to a good ground using braided cable vs solid wires.

    In...

    Re: Mini lathe spindle headstock

Thank you for the reply and info - this particular one seems to be built in Poland but i am not sure.

Anyway, the actual use plan is a bit odd for most people. I am converting a non working cnc...
  12. Re: Upgrade from the stone age: which is the right choice?

I am not sure if it would work for you or not, but the DIY router that I am rebuilding came with mach III.

For various reasons I purchased planet cnc hardware and software, plus the gecko stepper...

    Re: Mini lathe spindle headstock

It is not clear if any of these mini lathe spindle heads have tapered roller bearings in them or are just simple bearings.

Do the ones with tapered roller bearings usually call it out?

    Re: Mini lathe spindle headstock

I managed to get it apart.

Some parts required persuasion with a wood block and hammer.

As far as if I ever need a replacement, it looks like Taig is an option.

Re: Large Extruded Tslot Gantry Beam Sources

    Thanks for the resource list.

I just purchased some items from parco. They have larger items that I didn't find anywhere else.

    Very happy with the parts.

I have also purchased a few related...

    Mini lathe spindle headstock

Hi, I have the remnants of a small mini lathe.

The base casting has a "made in Poland" cast into it and a symbol mark that I cannot read.

It was given to me years ago and didn't really work...

    Re: 4' x 4' x 8" Router Build

I am looking for a similar motor mount setup.

The ones that I am finding on line are only 3mm for a nema 23 motor.

Are you fabricating those or have a supplier?

    Thanks

    Re: 4' x 4' x 8" Router Build

I completely agree that a higher voltage will give better results.

What I was looking at is the motor controller in your diagram. I am not sure that I am reading it correctly but it looks like it...

    Re: 4' x 4' x 8" Router Build

Your machine looks really strong and straight. Very impressive.

Reading the diagram, it looks like the controller is a 24 volt setup.

So yes, I believe that you take ( 24 volt ) x (peak...
  24. Re: Router rebuild - turning a non functional machine into something useful

Thank you. That is what it looks like to me as well.

I did find some size 23 stepper motor mounts on line after I made the post. They look pretty flimsy but perhaps will be good enough to keep...
  25. Re: Router rebuild - turning a non functional machine into something useful

For building my own stepper motor mount, I now have some 1/4 inch thick 8020 pre drilled plate that matches the 1515. You can see it in the prior post leaning against the back.

    The hole spacing...

  28. Re: Router rebuild - turning a non functional machine into something useful

Some more mechanical parts arrived yesterday - so that is always fun.

They carry some items that are not so...
