Re: How much rigidity do I need

This PDF might help you answer many questions you have and some you haven't asked yet. There is a wealth of information on "stiffness" and "damping" in welded steel construction precision machines.

Re: Another bridgeport retrofit, need advise

As far as controllers go, I believe Centroid Acorn will still display DRO whether you have servos or steppers. I plan to retrofit my BP Series 1 using DMM servos as well as the Centroid controller....

    bridgeport boss 5 retrofit

    Re: bridgeport boss 5 retrofit

Thank you mactec. I think the Acorn will be more than sufficient. This is my first CNC upgrade so I'm not always sure what is needed and what is just overkill. The Pro version of the software should...

    Re: bridgeport boss 5 retrofit

The only drawback of the new Centroid controller is it does not have encoder feed back. However, comparing the capabilities and price of Leadshine 3phase steppers and DMM Dyn4 servos you can have...

    Re: bridgeport boss 5 retrofit

I would also look at Centroid for control upgrade. They have a new step/direction control board coming out for a very reasonable price. I like that the motion control is done using the control board,...

    Re: Supermax YCM-30 retrofit

I know the feeling on the vfd. Wired up both my South Bend 10 k and the mill with ABBs. Had Engineer at work help me configure a self latching relay to operate reverse on the lathe. I love the vfd...

Thank you Mike. After I posted question I started looking up parallel to USB connectors. I'm not a super electronics geek from the old days- I know many of them though.[emoji1] I usually stumble my...

Thank you KSU! Just checked out your site. When I get home I will download the Fusion Post and take a look at it. If I go forward and purchase the mill the biggest hurdle will be setting up...

    Supermax YCM-30 retrofit

Thank you Jim. I looked at the ways which are in very good shape although they are ground and have no flaking. It looks like it was built that way.

They are using the mills now but ran into issue...
