Thanks Rodney! Good idea to check with air beforehand!
I believe the drawing I posted above has the ports labelled correctly. I have not fully hooked it up yet but I did plumb it in while re-assembling the machine.
I have found all my machines through Kijiji... The key is to setup 'saved searches' for relevant keywords so when an ad comes up you are notified about it before anyone else is :)
Hey all!
I'd like to retrofit a spindle chiller onto my VMC15, but I need to get clarification on which ports on the spindle are used for plumbing this in... Hopefully someone will be able to answer...
Nice!
Buying new is always going to be smoother... If you absolutely need to get up and running and making parts ASAP then buying used is not a good idea I don't think. Unless you have a very good...

If you want to see the work I did on my Fadal I have some videos showing the process:

I bought a Fadal VMC10 (same as VMC15 but without the enclosure) and have overall been very happy with it. However I have done a fair bit of work fixing the machine up over the years. It has all been...
Depending on how things work out I may be looking for an additional machine before the year is out.. The 4020s are nice machines! Where abouts are you located?
Not from what I've seen! I'm sure the chips are much cooler by the time they hit the floor...
The machine has been doing a fair amount of work, and overall running very well!
Here's some...
Thanks mate!
The machine does actually have a 16 station ATC, it's just a bit slow which might have given you the impression I was hand-loading tools...
Just stumbled across this thread again, thought you guys might like an update!
I ended up getting a Vertical Machining Center, after a lot of searching I found a beat up Fadal VMC10 for a very...
Cool, I will keep the steel dust thing in mind! I'll be machining G10 as well which is way nastier, may have to resort to coolant for that to keep the dust in check.
I use Solidworks for CAD and...
Hey mate!
I went up to Ottawa to inspect the VMC10 yesterday, and I will be buying it! The machine is in great shape and has low hours on it.
I'll likely get the sheet metal place down the street...
Thanks mate! I'm looking forward to it as I'm starting to burn out a bit doing all the repetitive processes by hand as I'm sure you can imagine!
I'm flying up to inspect the machine on Wednesday,...
Thanks mate! It may be worthwhile having someone look the machine over, because I'm going to have to spend $500 or so fly up there and see it anyway. If I can spend that money on someone that knows...
Hey guys!
I'm looking at buying a '94 Fadal VMC10 with the 88HS control. It's the first machine I've seen that is within my price range and will actually fit in my space. I plan to use it for low...
Thanks for the response mate!
I went and had a look at the machine today. Got an electrician in to power it up temporarily. The spindle drive wouldn't come on, and on closer inspection scorch...
Sorry to dig up an old thread, do you still have the PCV40? How do you like it overall?
I'm looking at buying an OKK PCV40, not sure where you are in Canada but it would be great if there's...
Hey Guys!
I've been looking around for a 'smallish' machining center for a while, was originally planing to buy new or nearly new but seems I can't afford to do that. While looking around for other...
I'm unlikely to go smaller than 1/8" for any of my work. I will be doing some engraving, but in very small areas, using single line fonts and the cycle time is relatively unimportant there...
It's definitely a consideration and I'm mainly looking at machines with 10K RPM spindles...
I actually just realized that I had forgotten that I had already gotten a quote for the Sharp VS2414, issue there is that the specs say it's too big to fit... I'll have a talk to their rep and see...
Love the toolchanger on those machines, clever design! I'll make a note to find out more about the Brother machines.
I got some more quotes back today:
Hurco VM10i - $72k
Hurco VM5i - $66k
Kent...
Thanks for the feedback! Interesting that they said the Hurco machine can't be broken down. The Kent is bigger and the rep said they wouldn't have any issues fitting it through the door by removing...
Right, I will have a look at them!
As an update: I have chatted with reps from Kent, Hurco, Hardinge and Sharp now.
Apparently the Kent machine will fit into the shop if some of the sheet-metal...
I haven't heard of that before, I will look it up.
I was looking at the Hurco machines last night, they look like they'd fit and they look like nice machines!
I spent some time measuring up all the doorways and such at the shop today, unfortunately there's no way I can fit the Kent, or Sharp machines into the shop, they won't fit through the building...
In Downtown Toronto, which is why getting a large machine like this can be a little interesting!
At least I'm no longer working out of my bedroom, getting a VMC in there would be a challenge :)
I saw those briefly the other day, they look very cool with their unique toolchanger design! Are the Fanuc Robodrills the same machine, or do they just share the toolchanger design?
