    Re: Sliding door rail replacement

Just rotate the shaft 180 deg. should be good for the next 20 years or so.
  2. Re: Eliminateing the water cooling to the ballscrews

I find over time the lip seals make a groove in the ball screw sealing surface and even with new seals I have dow frost getting to the thrust bearings.
It is a good system that adds accuracy to the...
  3. Re: VMC 40 Y-Axis Wiper....To add one or not?

You might need to reach between the covers with a hook tool to pull the chips out of the corners.
When the lower cover can slide full forward it can be tilted up and out.
  4. Re: VMC 40 Y-Axis Wiper....To add one or not?

Newer machines have a wiper style cover for the Y axis.
I have one old style machine like yours, it is easier to clean as you just pop off the springs and lift off, no bolts to deal with!

    You...

Your 1993 machine has a grease pack spindle, pneumatically operated lube for the ways and screws.

Your 1985 was originally air oil spindle, the mist unit should have spindle oil. It may be...

    Re: Travel Accuracy

I would look at the survey for that axis, you can comp for errors starting from the X- limit. We had a similar condition no backlash but over .010 accumulated error at full travel.

    Re: New Fadal Machines

They are using the high torque Fadal hi-low belt drive and spindle, I think that was a good choice as most new 40 taper mills are direct drive now and can't run large face mills and drills at high...

Re: 4020 with drawbar cylinder issue

Should be a ~.050 side hole in the push out rod that bleeds air down the drawbar for air blast at tool change .
It is not a high power blast like some machines with on board air surge tanks.
  9. Re: Anyone have experience with the new Fadals?

Could you share what problems you are having?
  10. Re: Fadal founder unleashes NXGen control for retrofitting your Fadal

It would be nice to have that control as a option by some of the machine tool builders. My guess it would have to be a builder that already offers control options like Feeler, Sharp or SMTCL.

    Re: Interlock disable

If you need to test the door interlock switch pull the J13 connector from the lower corner of the mother board. This will disable the door interlock system for testing.

    Don't forget to re-install...

I have had a few do that after 20 years of tool changes, replacement is inexpensive.
Keep your tool out pressure under 120 psi will help, never seen a broken piston damage anything else.

It sounds like a turcite problem not spindle tram to me.
If you jog a indicator around the table and one corner is low, the turcite has been damaged and worn away allowing the table to sink.

It would be interesting to see if they build new machines in Chatsworth.

The high RPM opens up the taper a little witch takes extra force to break loose, this is normal for a Fadal.
Some graphite spray on the taper shank will help.

I talked to Fives at Westech 2013 and was told they were not doing anything with Fadal other than supporting parts and service.

Some EMC, TRM and linear way mills had grease fittings standard with the PDI lube system as a option.
If yours has PDI to the screws it has been updated or was factory optioned with the lube system.

    x screw problems

Check the thrust bearing first. This is a common failure point and will usually

    inverter choice

INV-077 (Yaskawa) is what the newer machines 2003-up in my shop have.
No failures so far with the Yaskawa, I have had AMC inverters last from 2yrs to 15 years and still going.
