Great details...love seeing things like this...really gets the wheels turning
Also a shout out to Jkountz for supplying my build with an acme screw! So great to have support from fellow members! Thanks again!
Small update: build is progressing a bit slower than I thought as I haven't been able to devote the time I want. I have completed all of my metal cuts, filing, and bore holes. I am currently working...
Where did you source your aluminum frame/gantry pieces if you don't mind?
Wow, that gantry tube is massive! Internal pics look great. Looks really expensive  in a good way...
Sweet build...are you going to show some pics of the internals?
I like to use the bearings with the metal seals as opposed to the rubber seals. They seem to handle lateral loading better due to increased rigidity. At least that's what I have found in my long...
Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try. I just used the above drawing as an example, so it's not the actual one I am using. Much appreciated!
I have ViaCad 2d/3d v9
Say I import a 2d .jpg like the one I attached. I assume to make a 3d image I would trace lines over top of the image to form my initial wire outline.
My question is, how...
Wow, impressive! I'm going to send you a parts list for my Momus to machine...Ha!
I know you didn't forget about me, thanks for letting me know ;)
Nice! Looking really good...you are inspiring me to work faster
Tim
Do you or anyone else know the main/major differences between Viacad 2d/3d v8 and v9? I can purchase v8 for half the price of v9 and wanted to know what I d be missing. Information on the...
I am building a Momus diy machine that uses a 1/4" collet trim router as the spindle. What is a good starting point as far as what bits to acquire when starting out? I am machining wood in 3D, mostly...
Thanks for offering the 4 start screw Jkountz...I will totally take you up on that. This is why I love using forums because people really do help each other out. PM sent ;)
Thanks Mac, very informative. As I understood it from the plans, 1 was the slowest speed with better resolution and 4 was the faster speed with some sacrifice in resolution. My first instinct was to...
So and advice on what acme screw to get? That seems to be my biggest hangup. I was thinking the 2, but the speed of the 4 is so tempting. What are you guys using?
So what acme screw are you using? 1,2, or 4 step?
So this is the electronics package I am considering. I've done some research and really looks like a good value. Check out the way he does his wiring harnesses with hot swappable fuses, awesome!...
Great looking t-track. What size did you use and where did you get yours from if you don't mind me asking?
If you have a file that would be awesome. You want to post or email? I can pm you with my address...
Your parts you cut look great, love the mirror finish.
How is the Makita RT0700c working out? I am considering the same one (though it is a new rev now Makita RT0701c). It seemed to be a bit...
Thanks MAC...chipping metal and shredding wood :rainfro:
I'm sure I will have many questions.
A couple of observations early in my build:
The plans are amazing, very detailed with great write...
I have started my build in earnest. I am a cnc, woodworking and metalworking novice (but no stranger to common power tools). This is my first cnc build and will likely stay right on target with the...
Thanks fast, that makes me feel a bit better. I guess I will just have to remember to only measure from one side (godd side or square side) when setting up for the holes. The only part I was really...
I'm in Raleigh, NC
bought the plans a couple weeks ago, have all my metal, and started cutting today (see my new post, uggh)
Hi guys. I'm newer to the forum and new to cnc.
I just made a total rookie mistake and hope I won't have to reorder some metal. I made all my measurements and today was cutting day. I cut 10 parts...
Subbed, just read through the whole thread, great buil and some interesting inspiration for my own build!
New to cnc, not new to all things diy, looking to build my first cnc router. Decisions, decisions, wallowing through the mire of options...
