All working now. S24000 took it up to 9.9V so I went ahead and connected it.
Thanks for the help. Crazy that the documentation says 10V input but all the user-provided and seller-provided schematics...
With nothing left to try, I measured 10V on the VFD's +10V output rails and connected it to the BOB's 10V, since online documentation said it was different on this board and it was an input instead...
No luck. I tried every port from pins 0-4. Between AVI and GND I always get 0V.
Between the BOB's 24V rail and FWD output I get 24V when it's active and 0V when it's not, and strangely if I set the...
Ahh ok I think I understand now. I guess I'll just use the relay anyway rather than risk getting that wrong, plus it's isolated so it should help with shielding.
Just making sure, it should be wired...
From what I understand this BOB has 24V outputs. The relay takes 24V control signals, and other setups I've seen used relays for it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi4M3DAtTXg).
I didn't want to...
Ahh I see, so you're just shorting the VFD's FWD pin to it's own ground?
That cap underneath reads "7uF25V 47uF", but I'm not sure if it's even connected to +10V/COM/FWD
Ah ok thanks. There's no DCM on this VFD though. Did you just mean COM? Or connect it to the DCM on the BOB?
And I still connect both AVI together right?
But not referenced to the ACM on the BOB?...
I kept the original (unknown/unmarked) motors and used a 48V 8.3A PSU for the motors and a 24V wall wart adapter for the BOB and they run fine.
From what I understand the microstepping of the DM556...
Nearly finished upgrading my 6040Z with 12V PSU and Parallel BOB (TX14692) to 24V and USB BOB (BSMCEO4U-PP), just not sure what wires from the VFD to connect the NO/COM/NC side of the relay.
Do VFD...
So just to make sure I understand correctly, it's still right to connect the mains earth to the case like they did, just not through paint and it needs to be connected to all the other DC/AC grounds?...
I can turn on the spindle manually, so long as the computer is turned off. So grounding on the breakout board makes sense. I only turned it on for a few seconds in mach3 and manually.
What needs to...
It happens before I even open mach3. The bios screen doesn't trigger it either. It starts just when windows is about to boot up the login screen for the first time, but I can even turn off the box,...
I had the spindle being controlled in mach3, but now as soon as windows boots, or even when turning the control box on on after it's booted up, a relay ticks on and the FVD changes from FWD to STOP....
It just got here. Looks like mine is a little different?
There doesn't seem to be any spindle control board, the VFD is just a single board and takes AVI COM and FWD wires from the parallel breakout...
After watching some youtube videos, I think I was right the first time and the PWM signal goes to the VFD?
Is this connection right?
Also, what limiter switches do I need?
I was looking at these...
I'd rather not invest in software at this point. The demo version should even be fine since I won't be doing anything advanced, and MACH3 seems to be popular.
Isn't the parallel port board...
Oh I would have fried it. I get what you're saying now. The PWM and GND is supposed to be connected to the pins where a pot is on that speed controller board for the spindle, not the VFD.
And you...
It looks like this guy has done it with the motion controller you were talking about.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID8v34JxGnU
It looks like every EN+ DIR+ and PUL+ are all just supposed to be...
Oh so VFD and the power supply both have their own mains supply. I would have thought it would be connected to the PSU in some way since it was one of the VFD/controller box combos that only has 1...
Yeah I was looking at that breakout board too. Do the 6040 VFDs have isolated inputs?
If there's an easier option I'd rather go with that. If I can just switch over the wires with the new components...
Ahh I see. So VDC+ is connected directly to the PSU and the motion controller just sends pulses to Signal.
I guess Mach3 will do for software since it's going to come with the 6040 and apparently...
Hey guys, first time doing anything with CNC. Just ordered a chinese 6040Z from eBay, but I heard the controllers were crap and I didn't want to run it on an old PC with parralel, so I've ordered the...
