    Re: CNC Electronics

"7) On the back side panel, we are going to be handling the 4 motor connections (which are now the molex connectors),"

I don't know. a back panel means you need access to it which means can't put...

Re: CRASHED: Head Assembly Bolt Torque

Seems to me the table should of stopped moving as soon as the spindle stalled.
That type of safety protocol has been implemented for well over 30 yrs on CNC's.
Does Novakon not have this built...

    Re: SCR filter?

It's been a while, but finally got my hands on an Advanced Motion Controls 100A40L. I'll see how that works once all hooked up. Paid $325 for it, looks brand new.
Anybody know if I'm going to need...
  4. Re: rust & poor temp/humidity control & bolting Zinc to a mill

Same here, during T-storms, I shutdown. Not worth the broken tools and failed parts when the power goes off.
  5. Re: rust & poor temp/humidity control & bolting Zinc to a mill

I have to agree with mactec. Proper coolant and mix ratio is a must. If one of my machines is down for longer than a couple weeks, I usually spray a light coat of oil, on most unpainted surfaces....
  6. Re: BT30 spindle built from scratch, with ATC possibility.

I kind of figured "Not for sale".
But if you made more then one, I bet you people would be interested.
    Business potential?
  7. Re: BT30 spindle built from scratch, with ATC possibility.

    Impressive.
    Now how much for one?
  8. Re: Help needed for small mill to cut molds for an injection molding machine

There's a lot more to injection mold making then just the machining aspect of it. Your probably aware of the most apparent ones, but surface finish and textured patterns can be quite challenging,...

    Re: belt drive conversion

I don't have to pretend anything.
What is the total area of contact of your superior belt?

Do you have a belt tensioner?

When your belt gets moisture on it, can it guarantee positive drive?

Re: Cannot profile a curved part

Have you tried the "Chain pieces of geometry into a closed boundary" strategy? It shouldn't be so complicated. What version are you using. In the help file they explain the different options.
    Maybe...

    I agree.
Here are some facts about different belt configurations which the US Energy department has provided.

"The majority of belt drives use V-belts, which use a trapezoidal cross section to...

    Re: belt drive conversion

Bob, my two cents, go with timing belt. The efficiency is just as good as v grooves. You will never notice the HP drawback unless you are into the 10K RPM range.
Why I would go with a timing belt?...

Re: Cannot profile a curved part

When creating a new curve, I think if I remember correctly, you can select top view and click on the geometry you are trying to capture.
There should be a option to auto extract all curves, and it...

Re: Cannot profile a curved part

Sometimes you are better off just creating curves by selecting vertical walls. Once the curve is created you close the loop(curve), then you can select the proper machining operation.
    I don't have...

My old Tree also uses a timing belt. I had the mill apart a couple of month ago, and the belt was still like new. Also 5 hp.

  18. Re: Has anyone received their order from Precix in BC this year

    You need to phone them.
A year and a half? You are one patient individual. Heck, even Larken isn't that slow. Even when he's swamped, he at least give's you a quick response.

    Ok, thanks for the help.
  21. Re: Advice needed! New Open Source CNC on Kickstarter

Hmmm, Ok. My kernel speed was set to 45KHz. How did that happen.
I will try the new settings at 25KHz. I run 1.2GHz Pentium III .
Hopefully that will speeds things up.
So for a 'Hobby' CNC the...
  22. Re: Advice needed! New Open Source CNC on Kickstarter

I agree about the extra cost of USB or Ethernet control, and not much gain. But try to do 3D profiling with parallel port interface and now you start to realize why it is the way of the dinosaur....

Azalin, Does the ESC maintain constant torque?
  24. Re: Advice needed! New Open Source CNC on Kickstarter

Along with what most are saying, the big turn off is parallel port communication.
That is a big turn off for me, as it is a limiting factor when upgrading your software or need for speed.
    I...
