Re: Vetric Aspire nose dive on Z Axis

A silly solution that works is not so silly.
Yeah, a medium-speed reliable machine is much better than a fast but unreliable machine. Educational for all.

WHY use square nuts? Why not hex?
Have you tried eBay? They have plenty.

Re: CNC LATHE TURRET INDEX SWITCH

It's an Alpha Rotary Switch, single pole 12 position.
Quite a few distributors carry them for a few dollars each. First hit I got was Mouser.
You may need to trim the terminals, and in fact to...

Re: Teensy Weensy Drilling op help?

    I flattened off a land with a 2mm endmill
Oh, the number of times I have done that! I even do it before using a centre drill with some steel. Not cheating, just being smart.

Re: Teensy Weensy Drilling op help?

I have had similar problems myself drilling 0.3 mm dia holes. I think what is happening is that the tip of the drill (which does NOT come to a single point) is deflecting off the curvature.
    You...

    Re: 4th axis touch probing

if you're like me and normally run Z=0 at the top of the workpiece, you'll need to remember that the "+ve Z = safe to travel" mindset will not work here.
Um ... why not? (I am assuming that +Z is...

    Re: make Lathe tool holders

That may be so, but it implies that their web bunnies (or server admin) are incompetent, which means that the site could become a security risk from hackers seeking targets. It also means they are...
  12. Re: Pinouts on controller and breakout board do they need to be uniquely asigned?

The entire system is based on the pins in a standard parallel printer port (LPT) - quite literally the physical pins in the connector.
But just as you can have COMS1, COMS2, COMS3, you can have...
  13. Re: Pinouts on controller and breakout board do they need to be uniquely asigned?

Might be worth while reading (slowly) the Mach3 mill documentation first.

Do the pin outs to the steppers have to be unique
I am not sure what you mean here, but being conservative I will start...

    Re: make Lathe tool holders

According to Firefox, that buau.com.au web site is a serious security risk. Not going there.
Pity: Bohler (same thing) has a lot of good steel.
Ring them instead? They have a good paper catalog.

  15. Re: Anywhere to buy a 3kw spindle in Australia?

No, I was not suggesting using a common voltmeter to measure the voltage, just to detect whether or not there seems to be a small or large voltage. Measuring requires a knowledge of the...

OK, this manufacturer is worth knowing about. Very different from so many Chinese eBay distributors, who know nothing.

    Yes, you can...
  18. Re: Anywhere to buy a 3kw spindle in Australia?

Um - arcing across the bearing balls from the VFD? Yeah, weird, but that could do it.

Have to strip it down and inspect the bearing. A carbon brush on the shaft for earthing might be needed.
    If...

STAR grounding: everything to a single solid ground point.
Essential to prevent 'ground loops', which can be really disruptive.

  24. Re: Router Way Covers Not Allowing Full Rage of Motion

  25. Re: Router Way Covers Not Allowing Full Rage of Motion
