Thanks Admin for moving this thread, I wasn't sure where best to post it.
A friend has asked for help with his cnc router, he is unable to load programs from the usb drive.
The machine was shutdown over the holiday period, and on return it no longer reads from the usb...
I've done a bit more anodising now, and things are improving, still having diffs with some small pieces though, I try to batch 4 together and only 1 takes the anodising properly.
Still no idea why...
Parts worked out real well, I had read caswell and many more, some very helpful information, possibly too much ;-) Don't think I saw any of those videos, will check to see if theres anything else...
Well the first part is finished, looked odd like a velvety finish on it, but when dried and polished with a cloth looks real good. Very little black residue came off on to the cloth.
Next parts...
Well today was dry, but I put up a canopy outside just in case, so I could work in the open air.
Followed the process and placed the part into the acid, adjusted the voltage, kept going but at max...
I planned to do the anodising outside rather than in my man cave, but rain has stopped play so far :-(
Good idea on the vented box, I could do that as there is a window right beside the bench in...
Theres an amp meter built into my psu, so i'll adjust voltage as necessary to achieve the value.
Thanks for the reply Derek, spent a fair bit of time again today, and I've looked at the 720 calculator.
I don't have accurate control of the current, so tomorrow I plan to work to the guidelines...
I have machined some small pieces from aluminium sheet and would like to anodise and dye black.
In general i'm happy with the process but I think I've trawled my way into brain gel trying to...
Started looking for information today, so far only limited success. I had hoped to find someone buying an extruder etc in kit form and adding it on to their cnc build, along with a 4th stepper...
Using artcam with a post for mach3.
I like to add plenty of comments in my programs to remind me to remove clamps etc. How can I add comments for passthrough between toolpaths instead of having...
Same setup as I have.

1000L/hr pump, just one I had spare from reefkeeping hobby
Coolant fed through 0.25/6mm O/dia tubing
I added some antifreeze into my reservoir to...
Some real great pieces you are making,
I'm going to have my first try at these kind of pieces and chosen one of the owls, I have a dxf and pic, but no instructions on how to assemble. Is it easy...
I also use a compressor to blow my coolant lines clear, strange though that sometimes I notice the flow getting slower so I give the lines a good shake and rattle, the flow returns !!! must be a bit...
My machine has behaved itself 100% since I did the full grounding as Al described.
I'm fortunate to be able to use my mates works artcam, it's a real cracking piece of software, but excellent.
There are some cracking pieces of work being created as I can see in this thread.
I'm still finding my way with my machine, have made a few bits and pieces for marine reef tank filters, ham radio...
The font is "uk number plate", it's down to the vector graphics, if he doesnt get it sussed i'll try the free trials - thanks for the advice
I asked my mate to try solidworks, he says using the uk number plate font, the number eights have a sawtooth top edge.
Other mate tried using artcam 2008, using uk number plate font he gets vector...
Yep thats exactly what I need, just waiting on the sample details etc. Thank you.
Thanks for the link, just had a quick nosey, will have a better wee read later (in the middle of a pc repair)
I assume you use Delcam for Solidworks, will it meet all the machining requirements, creating the letters using a custom font and being able to profile the letters rather than scanning.
A friend...
Apologies if this isn't in the right section, I really wasn't certain where it belonged.
I have a custom "one off" depending on how well it works. to machine a square number plate with raised...
It sounds like it did, otherwise we would have heard invectives, instead of OK
Al.[/QUOTE]
Had to look up "invectives" but you're dead right, was heading that way, perhaps you saved my...
I've already grounded, whats the consequence if it doesn't support !!!!
My wrist slapping was very worthwhile, I am just back in from the "man cave", all axes screens are grounded, and the machine...

Hi BW,
Yes I do agree with you re shutting down M3 but leaving spindle running, it was really just a reference to the juddering situation in case it had a bearing on the cause. TBH I can use the...
The BOB is fed from the main DC circuit, which is now grounded. I might take the case into work tomorrow, my colleague appeared well clued up, so hopefully he might spot something.
Adding the...
