That's not accurate. CO2 lasers can cut metal but they don't do as well as fiber and the operational cost is more.

Jim, I noticed these aren't book settings for 14 gauge using 45A consumables. Does cutting at a lower amp and slower speed lead to longer consumable life?
I was hoping to see a better outcome on your sander Lee. I bought a wood planer with a 5hp motor on it to turn into a drum sander to do what you were looking to do.
Did the conveyor belt you got...
Ah man I hate to hear that. :( He was always willing to help anyone out with their questions.
Goodluck on the remodel look forward to how it works out for you.
For anyone that finds this down the road with the same issue Tom at CandCNC created the 11N post for the scribe so you can but delays in to compensate for the slow slide reaction.
I added a scribe plate marker to my home built table and I've got it working but I need help with how to put in a path rule. I've just been testing a couple of small circles, one inside the other and...
Hey Eric, that's how i set up my table with the long level but I never thought about using a strap to hold it together. I would tack it together and check square and level then cut it and try again....
Did you set up the offset in the MP1000 post?
If you have old tap files that have the correct offset and some new that have the wrong offset that could be the issue.
I'll check that too Lee but those have 2 bearings each and it hasn't seen enough use I wouldn't think to have wear yet.
I don't see the movement in the bearing block when I grab the Z. It's just a bit of flex in the Z itself and the 30MM rail.
So do you think if I added another bearing it will help? I noticed that...
I've just been cutting 14 and 16 gauge and the effects are amplified so I've been cutting around 95 IPM. I thought mine was the THC as well but then I noticed that as the Z flexes the THC is just...
I found a couple of more pictures in my build thread that are a little better but I didn't have the torch attached yet. I made my own break away and thought maybe that was what was wrong but I bolted...
It looks like we have the same Z axis Lee. The problem I'm having is if I go above about 95 IPM when I get a file that has sharp corners I get serrated edges because the Z along with my floating head...
Hey Dave I've been trying to figure out how to fix a flex and wiggle problem with my z axis and while looking at this thread I noticed in post #56 that your Z looks like the same one I have only mine...
Looks good!
It seemed the consensus was that 3:1 gearing was about the ideal ratio for the stepper motors. I kind of copied my design off of dnelso's build and because I didn't have a cheap and easy way to make...
You might want to try one of the other forumns like this one. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/benchtop-machines/
Not to say some of it doesn't cross over or that there isn't any interest here but...
Thanks Dave!
I got my gantry squared up and was finally able to cut my first art piece on Sunday. I haven't tried to cut anything other than 16 gauge yet.

Nice!
I was looking at the router stuff at Home Depot I think it was and they have a Makita 1 1/4 HP router that is variable speed from 10,000-30,000 rpm for $100.
That may be an option as...
Thank you sir!
Looks good. I never thought I would need a rotary cutter until I saw this thread. After I get my machine up and running I may look into building one. :)
Do you think you could send me the file...
My wife finished with Chemo two years ago after a double mastectomy. I'll be hoping for the best for you and your wife!
Thanks I'll take a look.
I got the water table painted and back in and have been working on getting the motors tuned and everything set up. I'm going to look around and see if I can find a small file to start testing it out....
I got the machine pretty much wired up this weekend minus doing the grounds to natural ground and mounting the PMW sensor. With Tom's help through email yesterday I was able to test the motors and...
Looking good. I'm digging your computer stand! :)
I got the table tore down over the last few weeks. Got some paint on it and the aluminum pieces polished up. Starting to go back together. I'm hoping to start wiring it up this weekend. I'd be a lot...
Thanks Lee.
Hopefully I can get that part all figured out and built this weekend so I can get started on the wiring.
