That's usually caused by misalignment and metal fatigue. Those spiral couplers are unforgiving of any misalignment.

I though maybe these couplings are supposed to break when something goes wrong to prevent motor or machine damage (also i have no limit switches )
ive ordered this one - Attachment 332916

and am concerned that it might not provide the same point of failure next time i get something wrong

as per tool settings, I dont think my machine is capable of cutting anything at 60mm per second, may not even be able to move that fast- i should have checked settings before going at it like a bull at gate !

In some cases yes, they are advertised for that however, your steppers should stall or the bit should break long before that coupler should break. Your new coupler is much better.
