I have never used a mill or lathe before but I want to learn. Im thinking about getting a harbor freight all in one machine (its all I can aford and All I have room for so pleas dont tell me to get separate machines.) I need to drill a hole with a .70 inch diameter hole through 7 inches of 6061 aluminum. Then drill the same hole out to .85" di. 4.5" down, then the same hole out to 1" 3 inches down.
From the reading I have done it would like I should do it with centers and bits on the lathe but I don't actually know. This will be drilled into a 1.25 inch square bar so I'm not even sure I can put that on a lathe with out a 4 chuck spindle.
So please give me your advice. Im all ears.
Oh yeah 2 more questions. I want one of the holes to have counter sink and the other to have a counter bore (stepping up from one id. to the next). Is there a certin bit I should get for one or there other. I think I need a 1 inch, #44 and #50 but I dont know where to buy them. Is there a good place to buy this size of bit from?
