    Nd YAG consumables.

    Greetings Everyone.

wondered if someone who understands smaller Nd YAG machines ( 75 -100watt range ) could clarify for me ( or direct me to a suitable webpage) :-

obviously this is a very wide question !

    Q. what are the consumable parts and what is the 'approximate' life and cost of each?

i kinda understand the arc lamp (or diode), YAG rod.
    is a gas-fill also involved?

i am considering looking for a used machine but i would like to be able to do some simple calculations first!

    thanks in advance.

I have several Rofin Nd:YAG lasers (diode not flash lamp) and they've been running for years with no consumable costs. They run almost 24/7 (fully automated).

The pump diodes are rated 100,000hrs, so I figure they'll last >10yrs!

    Diode vs Flash lamp.

    Thanks Zax,
i like the sound of that!

what is cooling set-up with your Rofins?

Does anyone know about flash lamp?
i am led to believe these are not so durable.

Lamp cost about $90 and usually we change them every 1,5 years. But keep in mind that our customers work 4-6 hours per day.
Rod cost $160 and work 2 years (sometimes more).

The ones I have are water cooled, although I believe they are available as an air cooled unit too.

    YAG

Thanks for the info guys - exactly what i needed.

ive actually just aquired a very old GSI HM1400 - which is flash lamp and water cooled 75watt i think.

its very old and neglected so i'd say theres every chance it wont work 100% as it should.
but got it for very little £ so i thought why not take the risk.

no doubt i will have some more questions for the forum in the coming weeks.

    cheers
