    Dead Length Collet Chuck ?'s

In the process of buying a new Mazak Lathe. We have the option of Either a pullback collet chuck, (which is all we've ever used) or for 1200 bucks more a dead length collet chuck. Is it worth the extra $? What are the advantages?

I find them very accurate especially if you use a pick off spindle tenths on OAL. If you use a sub spindle I would definitely consider it. for that.

The main reason for a "Dead Length" Collet Chuck is to take pressure off the barfedder when you close the chuck as the collet does not m0ve backward. Also, if you use it as a chucker, the parts will be more accurate in length, as it will not be materially affected by variations in diameter

    Crashmaster,

I'd spring for the dead length. Much more accurate. We have had great results with 16C versions from Royal.

    Good luck,

    Bob
