I am trying to complete my wiring diagram for my cnc kit. I have the keling 72 volt power supply capible of 20 amps. Running two three large steppers.

When wired, my steppers have very low resistance, do I have to set a resister inline between my gecko and my motor? Does the gecko handle the proper limiting?

Here is a (rough, incomplete but enough info) visio of what I am setting up.

This is my first experience with steppers and I Would rather not fry anything (or everything).

Matt,

The motor connects directly to the G203 with no resistors between motor and G203 drive.

Assuming all your motors are KL34H2120 the G203 will require a 282K current set resistor attached between terminals 11 & 12.

The current set resistor value determines the output current of the Gecko drive.

Don't forget a emergency stop switch connected to the G203 between terminal 7 and +5 volts.

Hi Matt.

You are using 2160 motors that are rated for 8.8A in BPP. Gecko does not recommend using motors greater than 7A with G203V. Setting for 7A is NO resistor.

If I were you, I would give Gecko a call, just to see if the G203V will automatically limit current to 7A. If so, your torque will fall to about 1500 Oz.
