I am using a Fanuc Series 18-M controller on a Takumi V10a milling center. The manual for the controller says the Controller type is 18MC.

I am capable of sending files to the machine fine, however when I try to receive I am getting nothing going to the PC. The Mill appears to be doing its job as it will flash "output" briefly till it completes.

I am using BobCad Predator software to send/receive. I tried using hyperterminal to see if I could get any different results but I don't completely understand how to set this up.

I checked to make sure that punch code setting was set to ISO.

Is the controller using the same channel parameters (stop bits, data, parity, baud rate) to send and receive? Or could there be a different channel set up to send files to a pc with different parameters?

Any advice will help!

A hardware checker could be used to monitor the pin status at each end of the cable, alternatively use a serial port monitor program such as http://ptf.com/download/advanced_ser...monitor/43534/

I know on the 18i series you can set prm 110 bit 0=1 to specify input and output are specified separately (in which case, prm 20-23 are used to specify the device), but I don't find any reference to this in the 18M-C parameter manual.

I would look at the cable first. If you are using a 9-25 cable, check pin 2 to pin 2 and pin 3 to pin 3 with an ohmmmeter to make sure there's continuity. If you're using a 25-25 cable, check 2 to 3 and 3 to 2.
