    Hi everyone.

I've just joined the forum today after coming accross it via a google search. I'm a luthier in england (uk) and have just purchased a set of Siminoff's f5 mandolin plans.

I was going to create 3d drawings of siminoff's plans in Rhino so that I could use my cnc machine to carve the soundboard and back but having read through this thread, it seems this may be harder than I thought!

Has anyone managed to create a 3d drawing and successfully cnc'd it yet? If so, any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Well I believe the answer to your suggestion is the fact he doesn't have the files. That is what he is looking for.

Correct Mike, as of yet I havent started to draw it in Rhino. I dont want to spend hours on it if its not really possible or if there is someone out there who is prepared to sell/give me a copy?

    Thanks,

Ok gents, here is the g code for a mandolin f5 top. I will provide the inside and back soon. Use a 1/4 inch endmill for each file. Lots of hard work to get to this point so I hope you all appreciate the effort. Please let me know if you have any provlems with this code.

I can help. Using my ShopBot CNC, I have probed the tops and backs of several Gibson F5, A5 mandolins and a Gibson H5 mandola. I converted that process into .dxf files and using my ArtCAM software converted those to cut files.

I can be reached at [email protected].

Rename the gcode filename extension from .nc (or whatever else it may be) to .txt and it will upload. Downloaders need to rename it back to the .nc filename extension.

I have V carve desktop. Do you have files for F5 mandolin? I can import 3d files but I can not make them in V carve desktop.

The first thing to specify if F-style or A-style. A-style is easy since it doesn't have that scroll thing on the upper bout. I don't have either worked up yet. What do you use for CAD software?
If you cut it to small you can always nail another piece on the end, but if you cut it to big... then what the hell you gonna do?
