thanks for the quick reply, however i dont think that post will work. that seems to output gcode and the controller on the 228 (afaik) accepts motion programs/conversational programs which dont look anything like g-code. however i could be all wet and just havn't got the controller completely down yet.

I have TC-221 and it only accepts the conversational programming. I have seen Brother machines that do accept EIA/ISO (G code) programs, but I'm fairly certain
that this is an option. Do a web search and contact Yamazen via email or phone
with your machine serial number and they may be able to tell you whether you have
g-code capability. If your machine is pre-1990 they may be very little help at all.

For what software are you looking for a post?
Can you send and receive programs via RS-232 and if so, what software are you
    using?

    Good luck
    Ben

Many of the old Brother Converstional machines can be converted to run G-Code. The machine's control panel, and several IC chips on the NCPCB need to be replaced. Parts will typically cost around a couple thousand bucks, and take a few hours to install by a technician.

We are developing a G-Code to Brother Conversational Converter at the moment. We are still using something like this in our company. The converter is able to convert any simple G-Code to a brother motion program.
Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in this.

    Hello,

I've sent a couple of emails to your email link and have received no response.
Is the g-code to brother motion control converter software available?
I would really like to try it and buy it if it's what you say it is.

    Thanks
    Ben

    Hi!
    I have a problem with brother TC-211.
I get the message "POSITION ERROR (Z)" and I don't know what to do.
Manual says just "press RESET key and check time constant"
What exactly should I check with the time constant?
    Can anybody help me?

One other thing I would like to know is does anybody know how to control the additional 4th axis of the brother TC-211.
I know that CODE 81 makes the axis move, but how do I control the angle of rotation?

It will give you this alarm if the rapids are below 250 IPM.
To get out of this alarm, Hold the RELSE (KEY) and Jog Z down.

That control can only send and receive m-codes which are only simple on off triggers and the port is only good for m-codes and commands to run programs already stored in the internal memory. Example you send a signal from a computer through the port that tells the mill to run internal program number 1000. M-codes are simple on off pulse, the degrees of rotation are controlled by a seperate controller for the rotary table.
