    driving LMD18245

hello, i am learning to programme microcontrollers using assembler langauge. id like to make and programme a stepper driver based around lmd18245 and the pic16f1826. however ive had a look through the data sheet for the LMD18245 and i cannot understand the tables for how to drive it. what i know is:

two chips are needed 1 for each coil
each chip has 6 inputs from the microcontroller
1 direction pin, 1 brake pin
brake pin in my case will be kept low
then there are 4 pins, m4,m3,m2,m1

if anyone could possibly help me to understand what state theese 8 pins need to be in for step 1, step 2.... for full stepping?

sorry if this has been coverd before i did look for threads about the lmd18245 but i could not check everyone.
    thanks for you time

The PicStep uses both the LMD18245 and a PIC you might want to start there. While the AvrSTMD uses the LMD18245 and an Atmel uC. I think the code is the opensource for both.
