    Thumbs up Supporting leadscrew "free" end

    Worst case, my X axis 1/2x10 leadscrew is 34" unsupported. I think there is too much run-out to capture the "free" end in a bearing.

    What is your favorite method for supporting the "free" end of a long horizontal leadscrew?

    Easiest is a radial bearing on the free end mounted in something like a pillow block. It should be accurately located in line with the screw axis. It should be able to allow axial movement of the screw due to possible thermal expansion (elongation).
