    Thread Milling

I've been threadmilling for a long time but it's such a slow process. I'm looking to speed up my cycle times and I'm looking for general tips/tricks to get the most out of this process.

    Any advice on?
    1) program style
    2) recomended brand of threadmills
    3) # of passes, rough/finish spring
    4) climp/conventional

    Thanks in advance.

Are you using single or multi-point thread mills?

Multi point indexables and helical solid. I just looked at an Emuge single but I've never tried it.

    Results

After doing several trials with different tools etc I'd like to post the results for anyone who's interested.
As far as cycle time goes I haven't made much of a dent. Surface finish is a concern in my case so it's limiting. Best results came from helical multi flute solid threadmills, I haven't found much difference between suppliers. I use a rough climb at about 2x feed, then, climb finish with no material left on between the two. Just pass back over in the opposite direction. I found a surprising amount of tool deflection so the finish pass gives better finish as well as dimensional consistency. This method likely reduces my tool life but I'm cutting brass so it's not really a concern.

Hope this helps for anyone who's looking.

Cool. I'm getting ready to do my first thread milling...maybe this weekend.
