    Broaching Job, Broaching head

I have a couple jobs I am bidding on that other local shops don’t want to do.
They involve an 1 3/8 ID spline 3 ¼ deep. The mat. Is 316L.

I am thinking I would build a clamp on broaching attachment to mount on the lower spindle housing (like the 90’ head does). Doing it this way there would be no impact to the spindle bearings.

Has anyone done this? Are there other issues I am missing?

    Thanks

Cool project - are you going horizontal or vertical with the broaching head?

And when you say the spline is 3&1/4 deep - is that through, or is it blind?

    Thought I would go vertical.

This part is thru. There are others blind with relief at end.

I have ordered the material to make 2 broaching heads.
I want to make it with removablat tooling holders to allow for diferent size tooling, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 square and 1" boreing bar.

Is there other options it should have?

Is there an interest in the second proto type head?

Nice, using bevel gears to turn the drive 90 degrees? Or did you have some other method in mind? What drive ratio are you using (RPM: Stroke/Min)? Max length of stroke? Adjustable stroke? What method of clearancing the return stroke?
