Tutorial: Rhino, Cut3D, and Vcarve Pro to make a guitar body..

well, I made a tutorial this week on making a guitar body using Rhino, Vcarve Pro, and Cut3D all together... mainly to show how to import the contours you create with Rhino into Vcarve pro and align eveything to work.. hope this will maybee help someone who has the same software..

untill I figure out how to embedd the videos... heres the links:

    Cool.

My split with the contour failed when I did it so I moved the surface up an very small amount (so it remained as accurate as possible) and it worked

I am not sure about your crazy sphere idea, as I don't think that the crossection of the bevel there would give a straight line (which it usually is for comfort bevels)

Anyway KUDOS to u for making a tutorial video, I'll bet someone will find them helpful

Can I request a carved top tutorial?

Thanks very much! YouTube provides an embedded video link. Just copy the link and paste it into your CNC Zone post. It will let you pick a color and size for the video frame that will be embedded.

I think the site here is messed up. I tried to fix your post last night and it didn't work. Normally, you just copy the link and it's embedded automatically.

Let's see if this works as a test:

thanks for trying to fix that.. I first just copied and pasted the links but when I previewed the post I realised it didnt work, I thought I had done something wrong on my side and was going to try to figure out what I had done wrong today... good to know that it was something with the site and not me.. you saved me a lot of time not bothering with it..

yea, the sphere thing makes for a pretty lame bottom contour.. mainly I just needed something fast for the tutorial in order to show how to setup the contours for Cut3D.. and then importing them into Vcarve Pro.. of course I know of a few guitarists with pretty big beer bellies so that contour might work well for them ( myself included ) ...

I guess not. Click on the Embed button and you will see a short list of options. Check the box for the options you want to enable. Then copy the embed code and paste it in your CNC Zone post.

The embed code was supposed to display a green frame and border.

Nice tutorials, but I have a question. Could the entire guitar be cut with Cut3D from the Rhino file which includes the contours? Why is it necessary to use Vcarve as well?

If you used Cut3D only, the entire body would be cut with a back and forth motion, the same as the contours are in the video. You'd probably need at least 2 passes, to avoid plunging the full thickness of the body at the perimeter.

By using V-Carve Pro for the profile and pocketing, the machine time is probably 20% or less of what it would be if using Cut3D alone.

thanks for the comments and questions so far guys and thanks for answering beamhome's question ger21...

the main reason I use the 2 programs together I'll add, is because if you only use Cut3D, the neck pocket, pickup pockets, and perimeter profile cuts come out very sloppy it seems.. I would never try to use Cut3D for making those cuts.. I really need to use a 1/4 endmill for those routes and it would not work well with Cut3D.....using Vcarve for pocketing those is a way better way to go.. plus, using both programs is a lot faster in the end ..for me developing this process was basiclly a work around to not having more expensive software that would machine selective contours on the guitar body and not try to machine the whole thing at once. Cut3d is definatetely not as good as Mastercam most likely, but I do find it simple, and a lot cheaper, and a good alternative for someone trying to start out with a budget..

anyways, thanks to all who watched and to CNC zone for having the ultimate resource for us all to learn this stuff

    aloha, Del
