LED light bulb in Bridgeport servo encoder?

The encoders in my Bridgeport Interact 2 mill have "1819" incandescent light bulbs. I was warned that when they burn out, the drive goes in runaway mode and runs unchecked in any direction.

I am doing a retrofit right now and am wondering what should I do.

One option is to replace the encoders (any suggestions?)

Another option is to perhaps find a LED light bulb with a similar bayonet connection.

    Any recommendations?

Try looking at the slot machine supply houses. Don't know if they will fit, but they have replacement LED's which direct replace the light bulbs in the push button switches on slot machines. Several varieties available.

The other choice is a bit uglier, but quick and easy. Find the right led with wire leads, add a resistor for the voltage, wire it in, set it beside the socket (if there's room), and tack it down with hot glue.

If you look inside a lot of the control panels on modern computers, you'll find that the switches, LED's etc, are all held in place with hot glue.

The chances are that your encoders are Heidenhain ERO`s.If they are you will need to change them anyway as they are special outputs. If you do change them,I would be interested in buying them as I have a few Interacts and prefer to keep the Heidenhain control.
