    Smile Questions about motor/gecko/weight/etc

    Hi All,

I read somewhere in the forum that a new gecko driver (204) is about to come out, is there any preliminary specs on the unit? (question 1)

Im building my 1st CNC router table and Im still purchasing parts

To date I only purchased 8 THK SHS15 Rails at ebay (12.5 inches long)

I plan to do some parts with my minilathe

And I'm on the market for bellscrews (zero backslash if possible) and steppers (so far I like these: Homeshopcnc nema 34 640 oz/in dual shaft $115 ) comments are welcome!

I want to know if I can build a system with limit/home switches for all the axes using gecko 201, or the new 204 (question 2)

Are the 640 oz/in motors to big for a table this size? it will be made out of aluminum (question 3)

I'm modelling the whole unit in SolidWorks, are there some other plans ready for download? I downloaded Jgro files and they are great to know how other people think things should be done. (question 4)

Well, I guess is too many questions for a 1st post. Thanks in advance for the comments.

    1) It should be available within a month or so. It's similar to a G201 but with many features to prevent damage from shorts and miswiring.

    2) limit and home switches are not dependant on the driver. You usually hook them to a breakout board like these.

    3) you didn't say how big the table would be? You can't have too big motors, imo.

    4) Not for free.

    Hi Gerry,

thanks for your reply (and for moving my msg to the proper board)

    1) Well, I guess I will wait for the new ones if price is the same

    2) ohh!, so with a break box I simply turn off the line of the printer cable but from the protected user side of the board right?
From the links you posted I see a full price range, what would you suggest for a project like mine?

    3) rails are 12.5in so, take the block size and they are around 10 inches efective travel. I want to be able to cut plastics, wood and aluminum.

Since this is my 1st project of this type I don't want to mess with servos, thats why I picked those beefy 640 oz/in steppers. Is this a wise decision?

    4) ok, I like free, I can see other ppl work from photos then

    Thanks
