    Hardinge HNC retrofit

I'm thinking of taking on a Hardinge HNC retrofit. Has any one had success with one of these lathes? By success I mean capable of running commercial quality parts time after time as well as threading. Given the small parts these lathe are fit for I figure it would have to be rock solid and fast. I have retro-fitted two Bridgeport Boss Mills, but they were more or less plug and play jobs with the help of the suppliers and the good folks here and other forums. ?.

I love my CHNC. Circa 1980. Takes amazing cuts. Very robust and precise. They were not kidding when they put "superprecision" on the machine!

I retrofit with steppers and a 3hp motor with 220 single phase VFD. Not enough low down grunt to do threading (due to the fact that I have to run the motor very low 150rpm to get the Z to be able to make a threading pass.) I really need a good servo on the Z so I can thread at 500-750 rpm. still trying to figure that out.

Regardless, I love the machine. Turret is next...

I love my CHNC and have made great parts for 2 years now. The only problems I've had is with my Hiak Spindle drive.

I Need boards for my Hardinge CHNC GE Hiak Drive if you guys have any.

    Year is late 1979-1980's.

There are 6 boards. Looking for some or all.

    Thanks much-
