    Tormach as a lathe

    Hi.

I have 80 or more pieces of round stock approximately 2.500 inches long that I need to put a full radius on each end. I do not have a lathe available at this time. I am wondering if anyone who has used their Tormach as a lathe would share some code to radius the ends of these pieces. This is not a paying job and there is no hurry. I will play with the I & J in the XZ plane but I have never used this function so I am not sure what I am doing. Any help will be appreciated. I am not asking for the code to be written for me but for someone to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks,

    Ernie

    Hi Ernie

It is really pretty simple. The most important thing is to change the "Plane" The Tormach starts up with G17 (XY Plane Select) You will have to switch it to G18 (XZ) otherwise it will not interpolate properly if at all.

    With these asumptions
    .75" diam stock
    center of stock = X0
    Bottom of stock = Z0
    Full .375" radius on end
Turning tool is on the right side of the stock

Your code would look something like this

    G18
    G0 Z0
    X0
    G2 X.375 Z.375 R.375

Don't forget your safe moves to and from the part. And test your code away from the tool. ( First cut should always be air)

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Scott,

Yes, I got all the pieces finished. Thanks for your input. It worked out great once you showed me what to do. My knowledge base has just increased a notch.

    Thanks again,

    Ernie
