Hello,

I have an old but in very good condition Colchester 7.5" Triumph center lathe
which is used very little these days.
I have been toying with the idea of converting it to CNC/Mach3 control.
I would perfer to go servo drive and need some help in sizing a motor for the saddle and cross slide drive.

I can get locally a "SureServo" drive brand sero motor and drive with following motor specs.

1 kw low inertia, 4 n/m continuous torque, 10 n/m inter

1 kw med inertia, 4 n/m cont torque, 16 n/m intermitant.

Would anyone know if these motor torque and power would be sufficent
to drive the lathe slides.

As servos operate at a higher speed than a stepper which I have used in the past would a 4 to 1 belt reduction to a 5mm ball screw to drive the slides operate the servos at too slow of a speed during normal cutting?
