Seeking linear actuator (demanding work environment)

    Hi guys,

The boss has sent me looking for a linear actuator. What I have found so far does not meet the requirement for the environment it will be working in.

What I need is an actuator which can:

Operate in a thermal range of approximately -20 to 80 Deg. C (-4 to 176F).

Hand extremely high humidity/steam for extended time periods.

    Have a stroke of approximately 250mm (10").

Be low speed, 25mm/1" per second is easily fast enough.

Be low force, 10Kg (22lbs) is easily enough.

Have a holding force of approximately 5Kg (11lbs) or more.

    Be reasonably corrosion resistant.

It would also be preferably from a supplier who can ship to Australia.

If anyone can name a supplier or manufacturer who has an actuator matching these requirements, please let me know.

    Cheers

I am not sure if this is the kind of thing you are looking for?

But they have IP54 rating and appears to be a TENV motor style?
You could also drop them and email and run your requirements past them.
The other alternative is a Hydraulic cylinder that has a position valve with a stepper to control the spool for rod positioning, they are much cheaper than Hyd servo valves, I will see if I can find the link if interested.

Thanks for the reply Al, that actuator looks good. We really only need a simple means of positioning in the extended or retracted position, so nothing too fancy is require. We may even go in the direction of a pneumatic ram.

    Thanks again

If you just want point to point positioning then limit switches could be used for position.
Pneumatics are not very precise, IF going Pneumatic, then air over oil may give you better positioning, this gives some advantage of hydraulics without the cost and noise of a Hyd. pump.
