    Software dilemma

I recently bought my first cnc machine, a used Multicam 1000 plasma table. The machine came with a PC that has Shop Data Systems software on it. It is pretty easy to use, but I am having issues with nesting, common cuts, and chain cutting. I spoke to SDS, and the salesman there has been great to deal with and has helped me out what he can. The thing is there is no tech support unless I transfer the license ($1800). Is this the best way to go to get g-code to the machine? Is there other software that will do what I need to do at a more reasonable price? I don't need drafting software, (I have Autocad), I just need to import .dxf files, apply toolpaths, and generate g-code.
I am in the middle of a big job, and need to do something pretty quick.
So far, I am real happy with the table.
    Thaks for the help!

    Will it run G-code?

Does this machine have a dedicated system or will it run G-code?

It runs g-code. I am not sure how the controller will interface with other software though. (I am new to cnc work.) The table has a keypad that is used to pick out the program once the toolpaths are applied. I assume there has to be some kind of path specified in the controller to find the program.
The machine will mainly be used more for basic shapes rather than art.

    Lots of CAD/CAM around...

As your machine runs G-code, as long as you can load code into the machine, the external software to create the G-code is where you need to look.
Hey, all you CAD/CAM users, offer some hints.
I just hand write code mostly.

    MultiCam

I once worked for MultiCam at DFW as CNC Programmer.
Nesting options are built into the handheld controller.
Been a while but if I remember correctly you input sheet (stock) size
and the amount of parts you need. I personally would nest the parts
using software but it works very well at the machine. Congrats on the new machine. MultiCam makes great machines.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up transfering the license on the Shop Data Systems software. There are probably cheaper ways I could have gone, but I needed to get the machine up and running. So far so good.
