(mini) Mills and Lathes: Which ones are easiest to convert to CNC?

I'm completely green. I know nothing (but am reading) about fascinating devices call mills and lathes! :-) I'm looking into getting something that will initially be used for cutting steel discs 8 - 10" diameter 3/8" thick among other parts that are used to build small wind turbines.

What would the community recommend I get-- and also have some room for perhaps larger/complex projects down the road? Which ones have you all found to be the easiest to add CNC functionality?

I'm still looking over the forums and haven't really found the answers I'm looking for yet, please forgive me if these are redundant questions.

    Thanks,

A 10x22 lathe fits the bill.
