Wood router, suitable spindle drive like shopbot?

    Hi,

Anyone suggest suitable wood router spindle drive? I've been looking at shotbot's website and they sure look much more robust square framed motors then the standard hand router, covered in plastic that you'll find in the DIY stores... The issue I've got about just purchasing a motor off epay for example is that it will not have a chuck.

An links to manufacturers that other people's used for spindle drives would be gratefully accepted!

    Cheers

I have a Shopbot and run a 5HP COlombo spindle. That is probably what you are seeing on the SB website.

I'm sure you already know the story....cheap and good machinery don't really go together! If you really look around, you can get a 3HP spindle with cables and VFD for around $2500.

Thanks again Brad. Yes such is life that cheap generically means cheap! I'm on the lookout....

If you are strapped for cash, you can always buy a Milwaukee 3.5 HP Industrial router...It is made for industrial use & is not plauged by overheating and bearing problems like it's PorterCable counterpart.
