    Roland mdx 40A?

    Hello!

I have searched the forum and have not found anything regarding the roland mdx. Does anyone have one? Any reviews? They are pretty inexpensive and offer good lease programs. Anything would be GREAT!!

    Thanks!

So strange no one ever replied to this. I am also looking at Roland (5 years later) and can find very little about them in the forums.. is there a reason for that? Are they not considered good CNC mills by anyone here?

They are good machines for making small highly detailed parts in soft materials. But they don't have the ability to cut metals, and they are more expensive than most of the CNC machines people here are mostly concerned with, so they don't get talked about much. What were you thinking about using it for?

    Hey,

    Thanks for replying.

I think we talked about it in the other thread. You're right, the roland would be good if it could cut metal, but as it stands pretty useless either way (except for their ridiculously expensive 540 model).

If you want to make large, flattish artistic carvings in wood, plastic, foam, etc., then looking at routers rather than mills makes sense. As well as the CamMaster machines you mentioned, you could check out the Shopbot lineup, or the machines and kits from CNCRouterparts, which people here seem to like a lot.

The 540 is not stiff enough to cut steel.
