    Voltage Divider

Hello all, I need some help figuring out how to reduce my 40vdc power supply to 24vdc. What i'm doing is adding a stepper drive to my existing 3 axis box to make it 4 axis for a ATHC.
The new drive is a smaller unit that is rated for 30vdc 2.5amps max.
I know how to figure out the voltage drop but I'm not sure about the current.
Can one of you electrical engineers give me some advise to design this circuit?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure whether you were literally asking for a "voltage divider" (which IMHO would be impractical, since you would be dissipating a large amount of power in the divider), or whether you were just using that term generally.

Have you considered simply acquiring a separate 24 VDC supply?

The alternative would seem to be locating a switching regulator to do the job (but I expect that it would be simpler and maybe also cheaper to just add a 24 volt supply).

If you have a linear supply, one of the most efficient is to add a small overwinding, especially easy on a toroidal transformer.
This method has been posted many times before.

Thanks for your replies, adding the 24volt supply was an idea but not much room left in the box. I probably will just buy a gegko g250 and connect it to my existing power supply.

    Thanks again for your time.
