    mhackney-

Misumi company has a lot of motion components.
MISUMI, the catalog company of Machine Components eCatalog

They also have a lot of options on how they can modify the parts they sell, but I'm not sure threading on the end of a ballscrew is an option.

Only problem is that most things they sell are metric although they have/seem to be getting more inch parts.

I just ordered some timing belt pulleys from them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check around. I live near Boston and the last few things I tried to get turned were way overpriced compared to other parts of the country. On something like this where the cost of the material (ball screws) is so high, I am sure it will be cost prohibitive to do locally. I just don't want to get in to the project and find out the screws are going to cost $1000.

Probably not a big hurry though since it sounds like Grizzly isn't shipping for 6+ weeks.

    regards,

Unfortunately blown SCR's and MOSFETs (Sieg boards) do happen.
    Plenty of Siegs have popped.
At least it happened early and you get a free one from Grizzly.
Been 2 G0704's reported so far and 2 for the PM25's.
Keep the old board, you could replace the SCR's and may have a spare for another project.
If mine blows after the warranty is up I may have to do an upgrade.

Well Grizzly sent me the wrong replacement board. Despite me saying several times the Motor Speed Controller Board I got the Main Circuit Board instead. So I'm going to have to place yet another call and wait for them to send the correct part. I'm going ahead and buying the replacement components and fix the board I got as well. Heck I'll probably have it repaired before they get me the correct part. This stinks! At least it gave me an opportunity to watch all 160 BobCAD training videos and start designing a few more parts. I'm sure I wouldn't have allowed myself the 16 or so hours if the machine hadn't went down. A cheap but functional flood system is next.

FYI, I'm not sure what the difference is in the 2 part numbers, but the 2 SCRs that fried on my board are the ones with part number S6025L The others that didn't burn up on mine are the D6025L

I found the same part same Littlefuse brand about $.50 per unit cheaper on eBay.

    Ncdeftones,

Satistronics has the SCR's for .69 cents each when you purchase 10 at a time.

The ballscrews and nuts from Roton for this conversion run about $175.
You could go the Chinese ballscrew route from linearmotionbearings2008.
linearmotionbearings2008 items - Get great deals on Business Industrial items on eBay.com!
They will machine the ends for you but their flanged nuts will require a bit
more machine massaging on your part.

Thanks Hoss. I am going to buy the conversion plans from you in a sec.

I knew how much the Roton's themselves cost, it is the machining that is the issue. Shops in the Boston area are out of control. Here is what I am going to do though:

    1) buy the machine (grizzly or precision matthews - whichever can ship first)

    2) buy the plans (actually that should be 1!)

    3) order the electronics

    4) try to find a machinist in New Hampshire or Ct. I would rather go with the Rotons. Now that I have experience with my X2, I want a step up in performance on this machine.

I can start to make the mounts, etc while I wait for the above.

I'll start my own build thread so as not to hijack yours. Thanks guys!

    cheers,
    Michael

    Jeff...

Yeah they are definitely cheaper, but it looks like the company is in Huaqiangbei, Shenzhen a part of China. It would probably take a little while to get here, if it makes it. It might be a good option for someone wanting to order some for "just in case" theirs pop.

Well I appreciate it. If I didn't need these soon I'd probably go ahead and order them from that place. Plus, I had already ordered them last night. I've bought several things directly from China and always got them, but it usually takes at least 3-4 weeks minimum to get what I ordered. I have heard of stuff not showing up and/or getting caught by customs or whatever. The China sellers normally mark your package as a "gift" to try to avoid it getting caught.

Oh well I guess I will start working on the flood this week. I took a giant side off of a computer server rack that we were trashing at work. It is going to make for a great collection pan. I bought a shower drain, PVC pipe, toilet closet flange, aluminum screen mesh, a plastic tote, and a cheap Harbor Freight fountain pump.

There is the option of getting a new board from KB Electronics.

Sweet...The board looks very similar. Funny that according to their chart they state the auxiliary heat sink is needed for motors 3/4 hp and up. I wonder if the G0704 setup isn't up to the task of cooling itself well enough? The only downside to ordering one of these replacements is that it racks up to be about $100 for the board, HP resistor, and the auxiliary heat sink.

This video shows a bit of what the mill can do with a little flood in the mix.
If the motor is working that is.
Tests were done with .500 4 Flute endmills M42.
The stainless used a regular endmill 2400 RPM, .050 DOC @ 20 IPM
The aluminum used a roughing finishing endmill (MSC Item #01858315) at 2000 RPM and up to .750 DOC @ 5 IPM.
The mill still seems capable of more but I don't think it's necessary to push any harder,
don't want to make the RF45 crowd jealous.
Funny thing is I forgot I only had 2 of the column bolts installed (quicker to take apart
    while I made the conversions).
Still want to add the 2 head bolts for extra stiffness.

Time to move on to prototyping the power drawbar.

    Hoss,

about the 16 gauge speaker wire for motor cables... do you mind posting a closeup of one of your soldered up DB9 connectors? I have no doubt that it will work because I can see you have used the same thing in the pics of your electronics/control panel enclosure. It just looks to me that 16 gauge is too big to solder to those little DB9 pins.

Also is all 16 gauge speaker wire the same or should I be looking for a particular type(auto,home,etc...)?

You only need 22 AWG, that's what the wires are coming out of the motors themselves.
I used 16 because it was a deal on sale.
Here's some pretty cheap 16/4 50 ft. $17.82 at Cable Wholesale.
    50ft - 16/4 65-Strand/0.16mm Speaker Cable White
Shielded would be better but it does cost more.
    Lots more here including shielded.
Security Cable - Security Cable from CableWholesale.com
Be sure to get stranded not solid.
I soldered one wire to 2 pins on the DB9 connectors.

Ok, makes more sense now. My brother has some 18 gauge wire he used several years back to run switch wires on the bagged mini trucks he built. I like freebies so I may just go with that

very nice on the 1.0" DOC...this machine keeps amazing me and it has tons of potential.

I have been thinking about the ball screw and nut options. Since there is not much space to spare I had an idea of attaching the nut on the side of the saddle. It makes the x travel shorter unless you make a pocket for the nut on the side plate. I'm going to replace the table side plates anyway. This may be an easier option than modifying the saddle and you can use larger and longer nuts.

Well, I'll get my mill in two months so let see then if this works.

I got an email from Weiss in China about getting a WMD20LV shipped from China.
    this is what they quoted.

    WMD20LV 698.00 $
    Stand 82.00 $

Besides,we calculated the cost of shipping for you ,the shipping cost from China to NewYork port
is about 200USD,which is your responsibility to pay.By the way, there should be some other charge when
you pick up the cargo in NewYork port.
Who knows what the import fees would be and the arrangements to get it from New York to home, or the shipping time.
It's also for their standard MT2 spindle.
I think I would just wait for an R8 version from Grizzly or others.

I haven't even been waiting a week since I ordered the grizzly and I'm stressing! But I have started on my mounts and ordered some of the mechanical bits.
