Well that would explain why I've not been able to find any pictures of it.. or a machined version of the ballnut mount.

My concern with going with flage up is.. I went with a Double Nut arrangement.. I'm a tad concerned that they're might not be enough travel at the end. I'll have to evaluate it when I go to install the screw.

Depends if you're doing the Z flip mod, should be plenty of ballscrew if you're not for the flange on top.

took two weekends to machine the parts needed to make phase 1 cnc. considering that until I purchased this milling machine in the spring, I had never used one I think I did pretty good. My biggest holdup was that I installed a set of DRO's to help make these parts. Finally got it up and running a couple of weeks ago and then just needed to find time to make some chips. Today I also took the time to create a dust collector on/off port for the CNC. Now I just need to make 4-5 more of them to get the best suction on a running machine. Right now I'm still waiting on some parts from china, and next payday I'll order the 3 drives that I will need.

Is somebody planning a tool changer on a slide?

Great job, you made short work of it.
Yeah I love having DROs for manual work, even the cheap igaging ones help, yours looks nicer than that.

nope.. igaging with a Shumatech 550 head. I find a little bit of bounce on the 10 thousand's bit, but that should be close enough for now. Also emailed Chai from linearmotion and got a price on a set of replacement balls screws. They will be on my list of things coming from china very quickly. I've looked at your tool changer and it's possible I'll have to make it since I have that nice little air cylinder I picked up that should be about perfect for it and I do want to make the PDB3. Already purchased the belleville washers but I think the design is a little beyond what I could do manually.

How much did it cost for the 550 parts to make it?

I bought a kit from Shumatech, think it was $180 shipped. I'd have to check that. It's mostly assembled with just some soldering of connectors etc. The scales added about another $150 and I needed about $40 worth of extra parts from mouser.com that was the case, standoffs and external connectors. Did I save a lot of money on doing it this way? a little, but I learned a lot along the way and that is priceless.

Me too, building the Shumatech DRO was half the fun but it was a god bit cheaper back then.

Hoss, and anyone else who's done a auto-oiler / one shot...

What sizes of push-to-connect fittings did you use for the saddle's and Ball nuts? Hose size and type? I need to put together that hardware order for my setup..

    Thanks, Connor

I used 1/4 fittings and 1/4 with 1/8 id PUR tubing since I had a bunch for this and other projects but you can go smaller with 5/32 or 4mm fittings.

I'm using 5/32" OD tubing on mine.

Also depends on how far you want to go on your one shot system.

If you want to put one way metered valves on each oiling point, I'd suggest getting it from here That's where I got my stuff from and it was still about half price after PayPal's ****ty exchange rate. The junction bars and metering valves are name brand as well, bijur.

"If you want to put one way metered valves on each oiling point..." - There should be no "if" to this. If you don't, you have no way of ensuring oil reaches all the oiling points anywhere near equally. In fact, you'll likely find some points get over-oiled, while others get no oil at all. And, without check valves, oil will drain away from the higher oiling points, and into the lower ones, so next time you try to oil, lots of oil will go to the low points, and little or none to the higher points, since it will take a lot of flow to re-fill the higher lines. It helps a lot to use large tube (6mm is good) between the pump and the manifolds, and 4mm from the manifolds to the oiling points.

    Regards,
    Ray L.

Also, this is the new pump I got earlier this year, great capacity and won't be any worry of over pressurizing the lines.

I've used a few metering and check valves on my system for years each feeding a section on the mill and it has worked PERFECTLY on the g0704.
Every spot gets oiled and the check valves keep the lines full, put one close to the pump too.

I did get around to mounting a pressure guage on the PDB 3, it's been working great so far.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Hey guys I need some help. I have done my G0704 conversion with all Hoss has recommended as parts except I am running a USB-SS other than that all the stepper drivers are the ones he recommends. My spindle is a whole story in itself but it is not the problem.

My cnc conversion has been working fine but I have been doing manual tool changes. I finally did the Z and Y axis extensions and the ballscrews, my version of a power draw bar and a ATC. It is a bed type tool rack for now. I downloaded the M6Start.m1s from Hoss's link, made the changes to the machine coordinates to fit my machine. I tested it in the MDI and could make all the tool changes I wanted no problem.

I had a problem with the M6Start.M1S macro, I had to remove the -2.5 from behind the Z for after it drops one tool and goes to new tool. It would not go up or down just move laterally to the new tool. I am so glad I was running it absent the tool rack. As you know with that removed it goes to Z 0.0 after dropping one tool and moving to the new tool. I tried all kinds of different numbers but it will not move vertically at all with a number behind the Z. So I left it at just Z so it goes to machine zero for all tool change movements vertically, works fine.

Now I ran a program with 3 different tools, I have ran it before and changed tools by hand so I know it is a good program.

As it was supposed to it switched tool 8 that was in the spindle with tool 1 from the rack and ran the first part of the program perfectly. When it came time to change to tool 3 from tool 1 it just dropped the tool where the spindle was at and started the spindle and tried to continue with the program....I tried it several times and every time it comes to a tool change after the first tool change it just drops the tool that is in the spindle and continues on as if it actually did the tool change.

Have you got any ideas why it is acting this way?

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Got the prototype made for my latest project, a right angle attachment for the mill.
Yes the head tilts and I made a 5th axis but this is easier to deal with plus it can rotate around to the front also to use for slitting and especially for surface grinding like I did on my X2 back in the day.
    Projects 4
I'll use rubber sheet to protect the mill from dust this time.
Waiting on stock to make it for real and do some testing.
Ground spiral bevel gears would be quieter but reusing the stock Z axis bevel gears appealed to the scrounger in me.
