Hoss do you offer the conversion kit in .stl format? I seen a guy on ebay selling the .stl files for the mounts and thought since I have a 3D printer I could print them out and use the printed ones to make aluminium ones.

Quick question for you while I am waiting for my thingiverse registration email.. What is the limiting factor in work cube size on a 3D printer build? Is it just frame build size or is there something else that becomes a constraint. All pretty new to me but have wants to build one of these for a while now for prototyping before machining.

You can go bigger by butting multiple heatbeds together, I'm using a single 12x12 covered with a 14x14 pane of glass.
I've seen some monster printers out there, mostly commercial ones but the problems with going bigger are warping of the part if it's too long, it can lift off the plate at the ends where it's cooler than the center.
Another reason to keep it reasonably sized is the time it takes to make the part.
Programs can easily run into hundreds of thousands of lines of code and take many hours to print.
Once you work out all the kinks, and there will be a learning curve, you can leave it go by itself but it's still a good idea to check in on it.
I have a remote cam I can watch it with because glitches will still happen, clogged nozzle, program error, part lifts off the table (especially ABS), a small electrical fire (once) and so on.
What you end up with is a ruined part and have to start over again.
Really sucks to have that after 10 hours of printing.
I keep parts smaller if I can, slicing a part in half with software (Netfabb) or designing them that way and gluing them together later, Weldon 16 is great stuff for PLA and ABS.

Very cool.. Glad I asked, its great to hear the potential pitfalls of larger parts. Length is definitely what I was after.. I guess going taller isn't necessarily a better option instead of long flat ways. I imagine that would keep the heat generated in a smaller X and Y area to avoid warping and part lift, but maybe add a slew of new issues from balancing a tall skinny part.. Clearly I have Iots to learn about this subject.

Gluing sounds like it may be the smart move.

Quick question regarding the shaft couplings. I broke the acetal disc in my X axis coupler because the threaded portion unthreaded from lead screw. I tightened the set screws as best I could, but it still worked loose. Do I need to file a flat on the lead screw threaded end, use loctite, or both? I just ordered more discs, but now I can't use my machine until I get them. Kinds of a let down since I felt so good about getting it up and going last night. This was the first part, and broke about 25 minutes in (pretty basic part, just a pocket and outer profile). I was about 3 minutes from being done, but the backlash kept getting worse and worse, which I didn't chalk up to the coupler coming loose until I heard the "pop". I hit that e-stop real quick!

Yes I've always recommended both flats and loctite threadlocker.

Are you referring to the jamb nuts on the screw or the set screws in the Oldham coupler?

Awesome, I must have just missed the info. Before the new discs get here, I will put some flats on. I have both blue and red loctite, which would be best for the oldham set screws?

Blue works fine but I also keep purple for really small screws.

1 quart is enough for 3 coats, that's all I used.

Im about to make a ballnut removal tool , after searching this thread i cant find exactly what material i'm supposed to use or a good supplier to purchase it . I'm getting close to putting this 704 into action with some double ball nuts and I don't want to screw things up at this stage of the game . Your plans were spot on , thank you for your work in creating them . I would have looked like three monkeys %^&*(#ing a football without them.
