    Hoss's G0704

I guess we'll start a new thread since the jealous little child
can't stand to see someone actually posting useful free information.
If you're a similar little child, you are not welcome here.
The information will be passed along irregardless of their childish attempts to soil it.

    The previous thread is here.

Oh well, whatcha gonna do but keep going and going and going and going.
The views will still keep climbing on the other thread as we use it for reference.
This thread is for information on the G0704 or similar BF mills, what I've done to mine and what you can do to yours.
Adults Only, children will be ignored. Be warned, any ignorant behavior will be reported.

    Wow man....

I cannot tell you how much this really sucks..... Watching all of this nonsense is really annoying. I realize that you and Ray have not gotten along for some time now and that is fine but I gotta say that it is a DAMN shame that is the way it is. Believe me I do not think I have to tell you how much you have inspired me with all of your interesting goings on in your shop. You are definitely one of the most interesting fellows on this forum. However, ray has also been a seriously helpful contributor to many on here including me. I have received many PMs and even talked personally with him on the phone when he had something that he thought might help me with my build. Bob Warfield is also a major contributor here as well as his well known and even more well done website is evidence of that. Personally I could give a rats ass whose mill is faster or whatnot, mine is not that fast but it has proven to be able to get away from me way faster than I can react a time or two...

What DOES matter here is that ALL of you guys are inspirations to those of us out here that have much to learn and watch and read and glean whatever we can from your endeavors success or failure.... I can honestly say that without the help and ideas of guys like you fellas my machine would not be a reality today. There have been MANY on here that have given ideas and information willingly that has spurred my build and I cannot personally thank you guys enough. I realize these forums can get crazy sometimes and people surely can say things that can come off as sounding sarcastic or rude. I am QUITE sure I have done it a time or two... If I have ever offended anyone on here I sincerely apologise..... But the reality is that this forum is more of a resource for this stuff than most on here realize. If you do a google search for ANYTHING that is CNC related you will quickly see that the top few entries are CNC zone stuff..... Why is that? Because of the variety of interesting and knowledgeable people on here that FREELY contribute and help others unselfishly ALL THE TIME!!! I am quite proud to be a part of this community and value it's information for my current projects and those future projects that I do not even understand yet....

So in short please take a step back here and think about what you post and how you post it more importantly, we are all human and can make mistakes and as has been said the written word leaves much to be misunderstanded often. Cooler heads MUST prevail and let's continue talking about what we learn from each other and not wether or not ours is better than yours.... peace

    Pete

A question was posted in the moderator forum as to why a certain recent thread was closed and posts deleted.
It might pay to re-read the forum policies.
The best way to treat taunters is to ignore them, by responding you play right into their hands.

Man, I missed something here... What exactly happened? Last I viewed the Hoss G0704 thread there was a dispute about rapid speeds. But it didn't seem to violent? Was this what caused it to close?

ah,that old deal, the instigators get away with it and the retaliaters are punished for defending themselves or others.
guess i'm in the wrong business.

you are right pete, kabibble and i don't get along, not since i dared to correct him on something a long time ago, never will.
i do ignore as best i can, now if it was only possible to get an electronic restraining order against him for my threads, that would be great.
i'd promise to keep out of his threads.

I just read that comment at the same time you posted.

I did find this though http://www.cnczone.com/forums/diy_cn...all_screw.html

There was a discussion about this type of setup years ago here on the zone. Basically that thread just links to this website: Linear Drive Systems for Traverse Winding, Spooling & Reciprocating Motion - Amacoil

The company claims that this system has many applications including cnc lathes, but their setup is much more robust then the 3d printed one.

I also like the EMF (Electro motive force) linear rails that I happened to see somewhere, but cannot remember where, but then again, probably not enough space underneath the bed to fit these bulky systems.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

    Hello Everyone,

For better or worse, I joined the G0704 owners club this morning. Well, at least I have submitted my application by placing my order with Grizzly.

I'm a computer programmer by trade, but I've always been fascinated by machine work and especially CNC. I don't know what it is about watching metal go from rough and dull to smooth and shiny but I just love it. I started out looking at videos of 3d printing, but I was naturally drawn to the videos by John Grimsmo, Tubelcain, Ox-tools and of course Hoss! After months of watching these you-tube videos, I started looking into what it would take to make a CNC machine of my own. Being a computer guy, my first step was to setup an old PC with LinuxCNC and started playing with that.

I started out looking at the X2 mill from Harbor Freight. Then I ran across Hoss' site and the G0704. Like others have said, the never ending desire for the biggest mill possible led me from one to another for a while. I saw the G0705 which was only about 100 dollars more but is a much heavier machine. For a while, I thought about getting one of those. My research into which would be the better mill led me to this forum and the original thread about Hoss's G0704. After reading all 78 pages of that thread, I decided to take the plunge and go with the G0704.

So, I placed the order... I was a little put off by what I consider to be a delivery scam with the extra charge for 'lift-gate' service. At first, I thought, I'll just pay it and be done with it it. Then I started reading all the fine print about having to be accessible to tractor trailers and possible 'extra' charges for difficult access etc... Now, there have been several time when I have ordered car engines from Jasper Engines and they had no trouble at all delivering to my house and putting the engine on my carport without any special regulations or 'lift-gate' fee, but I got the idea that this delivery was going to be a big hassle if they do indeed show up with an 18 wheeler to deliver a 300lb box. I decided that I'd just cancel the lift-gate service and pick it up myself from the local carrier. I don't think I should have any trouble getting it into my pickup truck. I had also added about another 200 dollars worth of tools etc to my order but I removed all of that when I noticed that they had added yet another 25 dollars worth of shipping to the bill.

Next, I'm going to order the stepper motors, power supply and controller board and other misc items. I was originally planning to do that first and have the motors turning on the bench under software control before I bought a mill, but once I made up my mind I figured why wait.

    And so it begins....

Hoss, have you had any issue with your treadmill motor cycling? The one I've put in place comes up to speed pretty good, but shortly after it slows way down, and speeds back up. If I put any kind of side load on it, it goes away. Just wondering what others have down to stop this.

Sounds like the IR and/or CL trim pot needs to be adjusted. Make sure you have the correct HP resistor installed and follow the manual's instructions for calibration. Fully cranking the accel pot can sometimes cause cogging as well.
