    Forged 6061-t versus 7075-t651

Hi Guys , i have been working in a racing billet brake calipers to my racing team.

Now the design is read to be machined ,but i have some questions...

Why the most billet calipers are maden from aluminium forged 6061-t ????

I cant make forging process in my shop, so i guess, if i could use the 7075-t651 instead of forged 6061???

Why do they use 6061 so much ? Is it a cheapest material?

What is the hardness brineel diferences between 7075-t651 and forged 6061-t?

Its easy to find 7075-t651 in my country (Brazil) ,the 6061 i cant find, only importing....

    Thanks guys

Here are a couple of links with information about 7075 and 6061. I think 6061 is used because it is cheaper than 7075 and is widely available in North America. I also think anything that can be made out of 6061 can probably be made from 7075 without any problems other than 7075 not being as corrosion resistant as 6061.

An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

    6061-t651=95 brinnel

    7075-t651=150 brinnel

    forged 6061=??????

How much brinnel hardness increase the forging process on 6061??

Hi Lourenco, How easy is it to find 7075 in Brazil ? I need machinable Aluminum but can't seem to find anything but Al 2021 in Chile. I would consider importing 7075 from Brazil, so where would I find it, and roughly what's the price per kg ?
    Thanks for your help !
