Located in Austin, Texas, the company is currently in the start-up phase and is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with extensive knowledge of high precision machining processes to work with the Operations, Product Development and Commercial Teams to establish best practice in our supply chain’s manufacturing process, help to accelerate new product implementation and achieve outstanding performance in lead time to market.

The individual must have exceptional interpersonal skills, be a self starter and capable of dealing with the ambiguity of a start-up environment.

Principle responsibilities include:

New Product Development and Implementation
• Lead supplier selection and development for high precision machined components ensuring optimum cost, quality and delivery
• Interface with the development team and provide DFM input to the product development process.
• Take ownership of machining process development and implementation to achieve the successful market launch for new products.
• Identify alternative approaches and opportunities to drive concurrence and accelerate project timing without compromising cost, quality or delivery.
• Provide an objective view of production resource requirements based on future project load assessments & timing.

Operations Support:
• Ensure optimum single piece flow based processes are in place at the supply base to ensure machined parts are under stringent process controls.
• Lead implementation of SPC and integrated process control techniques to ensure part control and part to part repeatability.
• Define and document detailed process specifications for all process steps
• Work with suppliers to ensure process controls and quality planning are defined and integrated in the process definition
• Carry out detailed project and sub project activities to schedule with project partners, sub contractors, management and service providers.
• Implement lean business processes commensurate with ISO 9001 standards.
• Drive process improvement and manufacturing product cost improvements.
• Identify and implement best practices appropriate for Viryd’s machined component manufacture.
• Work with JV partners and external suppliers to conduct technology transfer programs.
• Maintain a high degree of flexibility and willingness to take on assignments that leverage the Manufacturing Engineering skill set in this dynamic startup environment.

Qualifications:
• BS in Mechanical or Industrial engineering
• Minimum 10 years experience, in a high precision machining environment, typical industries would include, bearing manufacture, automotive engines / transmissions high precision machine tools, aerospace etc.
• Experience in working with and project managing programs with a distributed supply base.
• Familiar with high precision metrology and machined component measurement methods.
• Excellent facilitation and team building skills.
• Thrives in a fast passed multi project environment.
• Willing to travel approximately 25% of time.
• High level technical expertise.
• Operations experience in taking product to market and end to end product development – Concept – full scale production.
• Understands realistic lead times for precision machined component manufacture, process equipment & tooling.
• ISO 9001 experience – competent in developing and implementing business processes
• Mandarin Chinese language skills an advantage
• Previous start up experience an advantage.
