    Vacuum Shroud issues

The brush shroud that I received with my LC4896 is pretty inadequate.

The Bristles aren't long enough to contain dust from longer bits. The tightener system on it has stripped its threads and I have to drill it out to fix it.

Replacement bristles are $37 a foot! To replace the whole shroud, which is just a piece of aluminum with a tightener and bristles, is $350 - what a rip!

Does anyone know of a better setup for this? I'm probably going to design my own - definitely not spending that much for so little!

    Thanx,
    Grant Nicholson

i buy my strip brush (nylon not horsehair) from mcmaster carr, they have the aluminum strip holder as well, i use 1/2" plexi with the aluminum strip for the structure then i can see the bit

    Brush shroud

Thanx! What a great selection they have!

I really like your idea about the clear plexi too - seeing the bit will pose a real advantage!

How do you tighten it on - a bolt drilled into the plexi from the side?

I don't know about better, but I've made one for a specific application, the LC 3024 tabletop edition. I don't use brushes and it works with something as small as a shop vac.

A video of it in use is here. Key feature is the ability to remove the bottom portion by pulling 2 lynch pins and pulling back 1/2". Mounting is by way of the side T-slots and it maintains a constant altitude allowing the spindle to pass through the collector box.

Best Dust Shoe I have used...

... I got from KentCNC. What use to be a pain, is now the easiest thing I have to do on the router. Worth every penny and wouldn't be without it.

He makes them for a number of routers and, as I recall, will make one if he doesn't already have the pattern.

I will be ordering another one, if the one I bought does not fit my HSD ATC spindle when it gets here.
