    Acu-rite Glass Scale Position

Has anyone used an Acu-Rite glass scale with the Position-Trac feature as a an absolute reference? Position-Trac encodes the absolute position of the axis into the reference output. Rather than a single pulse at the center of the scale, it has the absolute position encoded on the reference track so that upon powerup, the current position is known. I want to know how it is coded on the scale and how to use it.

I couldn't find anything at the Acu-Rite site. Tech support did not know.

There are staggered sets of reference marks something like every 50mm. The distance between each ones is a little larger (or smaller, depending on which way you are moving), so that when it crosses any pair anywhere, it does a little math and figures out where it is. There is usually a short 'set-up' procedure to find a pair of marks, then you can use them to 'preset' a home position. After the next power cycle, you cross them by moving ~50mm in either direction, then it re-establishes your preset home position again.
