So I'm trying to find out if its possible to drip feed code into a Heidenhain 335 TNC controller 10-20 years old. We are using Gibbs, along with cimcoedit, the controller does have a serial port so we already know we can communicate, just wondering if the controller accepts drip feed. Any info even minutely related would be very much appreciated.

I may be mistaken as to the controller, inside the manual it lists both titles "Heidenhain TNC 2500" as well as "Heidenhain 335 TNC"

we have a much older controller and are able to drip feed by changing one of the parameters.. this changes it from wanting to download the program, verses 'drip feed'.

of course i couldn't tell you what parameter needs to be changed

does the manual mention anything?

1. do you have serial communnication runnig now?
You need to arrange full hardware either software handshake first.
2. what happens if you do call part program for execution pointing the source serial port instead of internal storage or floppy?

If memory serves (my memory, not the control's), to drip feed the 335, you have to have the hardware handshaking and the cable configured for this, not just a 3 conductor serial. If you have the manual, the diagram for this should be there. If not, let me know and I'll go blow the dust off my notes in storage.
