    What does VDI stand for?

    Hi,

Seems simple but I have searched everywhere and cannot find what VDI means!

This is in relation to cnc lathe tooling. VDI DIN 69880. I am trying to learn the whys of everything but lacking sources.

Tried Wiki search, tooling companies, google,,,,

    And ideas?

    Hi Lee,
This is not something I know for sure so hopelfully someone else either corrects me or confirms. Anyway, I beleive VDI in this context stands for Verein Deutsche Ingenieure which means something like German engineers association.

So THAT is why I couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the help. Do you know if there is a more common term used in this country?

I just wanted to learn the classification and the different sizes.

Sorry I don't know. What's wrong with the name it has? ;-) As far as I know it's just another "standard" like NEMA, ASME, DIN, ISO, etc

Here's a page I found that shows a bunch of different types (or forms) of VDI holders, perhaps it helps.

    /Henrik.
