    XY Table or Flying Optics?

    Hi All,

    I'm in the process of building a laser cutter/engraver.

    Here's what I have:

    Coherent Model 42 Industrial CO2 Laser (60W)
    Gecko drives
    Keiling steppers
    Mach3
    Acme thread drive screws
    Mill, lathe, etc.

    I'd like your advice on whether to build an XY table or use flying optics.

    I've studied this quite a bit, but I'm having a hard time making a decision.

    You didn't specify the table size which is critical to make a decision, but providing it isn't very large I would go with flying optics.

    I would also consider using ball screws or belt drives.
